Weekends sure are tough
I've just been struggling this weekend and thought I'd post just to "talk". Since I've been here, I've made it through one weekend, which was for me AF days 3-5. I got to day 9 (Friday) and slipped. Slipped Saturday and Sunday that week. Was fine the following week and slipped again that Friday. So here I am on day 9 again. This weekend has been very tough. I haven't been in many social situations this weekend, but just being in the house, cooking, cold outside, etc. - have given me tremendous cravings for wine. So far I've made it and I"m pretty sure I"m gonna be OK! Hopefully the week will be better - I haven't had nearly as much trouble during the week so far. I'm shooting for 30 days AF so I can have a better shot at my habits actually changing but trying to keep it ODAT and not think about the goal too much so as not to get too overwhelmed. After so many years of drinking daily it is such a big change! I'm excited, and feel good, and I'm pretty sure I can do this. Here's hoping!Tags: None

Weekends sure are tough
Frances,
I think what makes the weekends tough is exactly what you described. Home, hanging around, doing chores, cooking (cooking time was a huge drinking time for me, personally, very few bottles of wine actually made it to the table to be shared.)
I found I had to change routines to get through the weekends. It helped.
I go out and do something. Anything. I have actually, since I have been able to work at home for the past few weeks and not on the road, done most of my house work in the evenings or during my lunch period. That way I am not stuck at home on the weekends for chores.
Hang in there, Frances. You can do it!!

Weekends sure are tough
Unstructured time was always tough for me. Get some jobs done, then, reward time! Or maybe reward time with jobs! NO MORE. My time is under my control, no longer just passing the time until wine time. What a great feeling.
Hang in there, Frances. I think you are through the hardest part. You made it through this weekend, that's huge! It will gradually get easier with fewer rough spots. My life is better without alcohol, since 9/1/12. My sobriety tool is the list at permalink 236 on the toolbox thread under monthly abstinance.

Weekends sure are tough
Hi frances,
I know what you mean too. Just some of the routine weekend stuff makes it seem like I should be having a drink. Like during the football game today. Hubby and I were watching football, having chips and I'm thinking, I should be having a beer! I finally got up and got myself a sparkling apple cider in a beer glass just so it looked like I was having a beer and it satisfied me. For me (at least at the moment) it was just the habit of what I would normally be doing that frustrated me. Until I made it look like normal it just didn't feel normal.
Are you doing any of the meds, supps or cds? I find it really helps me.
Hang in there. This is really hard. Some days are harder than others. You can do this!

Weekends sure are tough
Congrats, Frances!!! It IS a wonderful feeling to climb over one of those tough hills (or mountains). But think of all the new things you can do while you're looking for ways to occupy your mind!! It can be an adventure, and a sober new beginning. What a great start! :goodjob:sigpic
