I HAVE A QUESTION
I love this question.
Im doing this for me. I don't want my kids grown having the same problems as me. I don't want drinking to be one of my big regrets. I want to look back and know I really did the best I could. I also want to be the one who tries to break the alcoholic cycle in my family, and give my kids an extra boost- I'm pretty sure if there's a drinking gene my children will have it like me.

I HAVE A QUESTION
To be honest, I am equally concerned about myself and my husband. How alcohol is effecting our living of life and our marriage. I have had few occasions that I felt comfortable for doing something strictly for me, if it effected someone I love negatively.
Thus my dilema of being a co-dependent alcoholic.

I HAVE A QUESTION
Hart, I don't think it is at all "co-dependent" to consider the needs of others when we make major decisions about our own health care and our own behavior. Of course the "correct" answer where alcoholism recovery is concerned is always to say that we are doing it only for ourselves. But I think that this idea is promoted so strongly because often, when people say they are doing it for others, what they really mean is that they are doing it to get the approval of others... and that is very shaky ground, indeed, for a recovery program. Considering the well-being of others is another matter, entirely.
