Thank you Britt, she has had the cancer removed but.....and now we find she has emphysema. It is the worst....

Starts, here's the deal.

So many people I hear of dying young through cancer etc who haven't even smoked a fag in their life. Then there's the guy/woman who has smoked Woodbines or Captain Full strenght (??? Can't remember the proper name!!) and lived to be 90 etc. I guess I still have that cavalier approach to my smoking that it aint gonna effect me! So it was only hearing and reading properly about emphysema the other day that it really made me sit up and take note more. I was dying to ask to yesterday about whether or not your mum had been a smoker but I felt it innapropriate somehow. I'm glad I can be honest with you though. I'm just not ready to quit no matter how much I read about the bad side of things. Guess I'm hoping I'm gonna be one of those 90 year old blokes still puffing away. I know I'm playing Russian roulette with my life. Of course I want to see my daughter grow up and have grandchildren of my own. But I still don't get it somehow. "It's not gonna happen to me" syndrome is rife in my head at present!!

Hipps I totally understand I have been a smoker for most of my life and for the last 15 years I have been addicted to nicotine gum the last 2 years I have been smoking AND chewing the gum. I have an addictive personality and right now nicotine is my DOC (drug of choice)
Rich cannot give up either it is so very hard. I really do understand. Please ask whatever you like

Hippie...those that NEVER smoked may have been around someone that did...second-hand smoke kills too.... but, tackle one thing at a time and tackle the issue that is most detremental to you and your family...drinking by far I would think. I have other habits too...not smoking but i bite my nails...would love to give it up, but I can only do one thing at a time.

I do think though that second hand smoke is a load of bollox! Too PC for my liking and I'm very anti PC at the moment!!lol I put staples in my little girls finger puppet today because the frickin glue was not strong enough to make it stick. She was heartbroken untill daddy came to the rescue with a staple gun. No bloody fingers anywhere and no more tears either. Daddy came to the rescue yet again!
