Thanks for clarifying WIP..
To me it is fine..I dont just want to be here to pat people on the back and say well done..I want to help people in my situation..And when i need that encouragment get some back..A few of us last night actually did say we thought it was a bad idea..Definatly did not encourage..
I think in the main most new the situation the man is in..Took that into account..empathised and let him get on with his night..
That upset me a bit last night...That everyone else could see Hips was clearly in pain and in a bad place...Knowing when to speak your mind and give your opinion is important..

I personally think Hipps was out of order last night. And i count the man as a good friend on here.
There is no need to abuse people and F'ing this and that ever.
Speaking your mind is one thing, and a balanced discussion is fine, but swearing and making comments to people for me is not on.
I think a simple change of the thread title each day would clear up alot on here. An AF thread for those who want to talk about being alc free, and a pooh thread for those of us who want to chat like we do. We all know where we are then.

The title is not the issue. AF is AF. That is the goal. The issue is with peeps posting that they are drinking at the mo, or will drink no matter what. That is very different from someone posting that they feel the need for the drink and want support to get through the thoughts until they pass.

Macks, "pats on the back" are easy. Anyone can do that. Nobody ever gets in trouble around here for giving pats on the back. Challenges and encouragement to change behaviors and thinking patterns: that's a whole lot harder, isn't it? People often do NOT appreciate it, or want to hear it, or want to listen to it. But without THAT part of friendship and support, this place is (IMO) not going to be very helpful to people who have serious problems with alcohol... and serious problems resulting from alcohol. And I believe that talking with people about their problems, when they are intoxicated, really doesn't do them any good. Others may disagree... of course!

As does pointing out their faults while intoxicated...The only reason you got the ( and i agree with cymru on this ) the response you got last night..

Mackeral, I did not point out anyone's "faults" last night. The only reason I got the response I did is because the person who was posting drunk was.... drunk. People who are drunk behave that way. They destroy things. They destroy relationships. That's why nobody wants to be around them, while they are drunk. That's why people want them (us) to quit drinking...

Please don't blame any of this on me.

And I count Hipps as a good friend, too! He is a dear man, with a lot weighing him down, and I feel for him. And of course I am very well aware that there is not one person here who has never gotten "out of order" in one way or another, usually many times, in many ways... certainly I have, to my deep regret. Hell that's why we are all here! When I am out of order... drunk, or not drunk... I expect to be called on it. Not in an abusive way, but in a straightforward way. And if I am not given genuine help from my friends (not just pats on the back and "oh poor dear" when/if I am drunk)... then what good are my friends?

And that is exactly what I am asking, today, about this thread: what, if anything, do we consider "out of order" here? Maybe it is not what I thought it was, and if so, I certainly accept that!

I love this thread and like Mr. Macks , I love talking shite , its the talking of shite that helps me get through the night af ..time seems to fly tiill its bedtime and another successfull af night has passed , thats the beauty of the af thread for me.I have managed more af nights ever with this thread and mwo only really came alive for me when it started up first and the music threads as well.
However I understand your point of view WIP, the general rule is if peeps are pissed dont post, but if someone is pissed how can we actually stop them from posting...we cant! But I sppose it would be better not to get into a dialougue with them when they are like that, it nearly always goes downhill.
Perhaps the thread should be called Striving to be af army...I dont know but I know one thing for sure ...I love this thread and intend to remain a regular on it.

P.S.Im not just a big fan of the af army thread , Im a big fan of you too WIP!

I guess I have missed a lot being offline for a couple of days! I have a problem with people posting while drunk because they are not rational enough for productive conversation about ANYTHING. If I see that when I am here I just buzz off to another thread. I don't talk to my husb when he's drunk because nothing comes of that either. Conversation with someone in that condition just goes in circles or gets ugly for no apparent reason at all. Pointless indeed!
