    spoke to dr??!??

Holy mother of god, I went to the dr's today to discuss my youngest getting her tonsils out, my oldest's pre-teen skin (precautionary) and to discuss me changing antidepressants....well low and behold, the whole drinking deal POURS out of me (pardon the pun)....I had no intentions of discussing it....I really was afraid to. I mentioned Topa to her, didn't tell her I was already on it and bought it online-she'd shit. She said she had heard it had been used off label for weight loss. I told her about the book and the website. She didn't say no.....we have changed my pills from Wellbutrin XL to something which name escapes me right now....just new to Canada but has been in the States for a bit.....nope, don't remember...anyway....she gave me a script for that and she will research topa for alcohol and I go back and see her in 4 weeks.

I feel better having told her. I told her I didn't want to tell her and that other than Jeff, my husband, no one knew, well, I haven't told anyone. I feel a little lighter.....She said it was great that I have gone a month AF....I think it's pretty cool as well

CYMBALTA! I had to freaking look it up!

    spoke to dr??!??

Christy, I've posted this link on other thread and thought you would be interested in passing it along to your MD since she seems interested and open about topa. It contains all of the research/work by Bankole Johnson who is the orginal research on topa and alcohol. There is even a section for doctors on how to dose topa.

Christy - that's great! Like you, my Dr is the only other person other than my partner who knows about my struggles with this and she has been enormously supportive (although we cant get Topamax here). My heart really goes out to people on here who have Dr's whose idea of good practice dates back to the 1950s and 60s where Drs were the "medical experts".

Yay for those Drs who encourage their patients to take responsibility for their own health and who recognise that information can come from a range of sources other than the British Medical Journal!!

And good on you for telling her ...... and counting down to Thursday!!
