Karbihere: that is a lot to handle an kudos to staying sober. what a wonderful accomplishment.
River: laughing too hard at the school situation as I have one police officer (2nd grade) and one deputy in training (kindergarten). Went to pick up kindergartner and teacher chuckled as she told me he announced to the class that Mommy drinks wine and Daddy drinks beer but when Mommy ran out of wine she drank yucky Daddy beer. Obvious the woman doesn't know I have alcohol issues or she wouldn't have found it so funny. Must remember kids tell all - like when Mommy drank a whole bunch of wine and said silly things and went to bed at 7:30pm in her clothes. HA HA. I remember going in to read at my kids classs so hung over. I hope nobody knew. I had switched to vodka to hide it from my kids better (I could pretend it was just juice) and I felt so yucky and I had to read to all those kids...yes, and I am a big fan of Desperate Housewives, and they sure do drink a lot! I used to drink while watching it...
I would LOVE to know who my fellow Moms In this Situation at my kids' schools are!

I agree Lila. You think you are the only Mom - the one with the swollen, blood shot eyes and pounding head and calculating how many nanoseconds it will be until you can have a drink....while feeling like the red-headed step child who clearly is an alien dropped from the sick planet of "loves to drink alot""Parenthood remains the greatest single preserve of the amateur." When I had puffy, swollen eyes, it got blamed on allergies or sinus pressure. I had myself half convinced it was true! You, as much as anyone in the universe, deserve your love and respect. ~ Buddha

Why so many Moms in this situation?
I just got a book from the library: "Perfect Madness: Motherhood in the Age of Anxiety" by Judith Warner. I just started it yesterday but so far very powerful. Not specifically about AL (in fact I wish it addressed that more) but the perfectionism that so many of us seek. I have seen this book referred and reviiewed in numerous other sources.
