    Arrrrrg - Having problems

    HELP...

Why was it that when I decided to quit smoking I did it 1,2,3 and have not smoked since making that decision. But when I decided that I wanted to quit drinking it seems to be more difficult, I seem to go several days doing ok and then I lie to myself that all is good and I can have "just one" and of course we all know that never works. I do take Campral 3X a day and it seems to work except for those day's when I lie to myself, the day's that I just drink water and ok coffee I wake up feeling like a million bucks.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated as my goal now is AF rest of year for starters and then setting a goal for 2009.
    Thaks

What other parts of the program have you included in your plan? Exercise, hypnosis recordings, healthy diet, watching out not to get hungry, doing a lot of posting and reading here... ? Watching your thoughts about alcohol?

Take a look at the "tool box" thread in the Monthly ABS section. You might need to work on your plan. That's an essential part of getting to where you want to go...

Yes there are times when the "flavor" is missed. I have been riding a bike and going out for walks, situps and pushups. I may have to change meds when I get home as maybe the Campral is not working right for me, I will discuss this with my therapist and Dr. I'll also check out that "tool box? thread, thanks all

Well, it sounds like you realise it is just your mind telling you that its OK to have drink so maybe work on the physical cravings a bit? What about Kudzu and Lglutamine? They help me with cravings. Also making sure that I am not craving for emotional reasons. I believe in AA they talk about H.A.L.T, that is hungry, angry, lonely or tired. These emotions would always encourage me to take that first drink. If I deal with those first, then I feel stronger.

Thanks Startingover, your worlds are appreciated. I have been looking at Kudzu what is that what or where ican I read more about it as well as Lglutamine? I hae been looking at becoming a member, well try it at least for 3 mos and take it from there. Your H.A.L.T makes a lot of sense, that is excactly what I allow to happen, esp when I am traveling. Thanks again.

Hey FT, the kudzu and lglut I get from this site, you dont need to be a subscriber to get them, just click on health store link.
If you want to research a bit more, Google Kudzu I have found a lot of info that way....
The reason I buy from here is I know that the quality is good. There are a lot of lesser brands out there and I dont want to risk it.
I have been taking it for about 3 months, did the first few weeks with nothing, that was hard, the anxiety and cravings were really tough, but since taking these I really have felt better.
Good luck and I am glad the HALT analogy helped you...

It certainly is.. I could not have stayed sober without it I dont think.
Its important to keep checking in though, often when people dont especially in the early days, thats when their resolve weakens..
Also its good to get to know people individually, then there is always someone to go to when the going gets tough

Well here I am home finally after being far away from home for 2 months (thus Frequent Traveler title), since I originally posted this I have been AF since then, this site, the downloaded book which I am still reading and waiting for my shipment of free sample (for joining web site) have been a great aid and support as well as reading other peoples posts. I am heading overseas for Christmas with my son to see my 82 year old father and my brothers family and will stay strong. Thank you all and as stated this is a great site, happy holidays to you all.....TX
