Brittzak, I agree, up to a point. If someone PM's me and tells me personal things about herself, I would never reveal those things. But if someone PM's me and tells me her opinion about ME, especially if it is a hurtful or inaccurate opinion.... then no, it need not be kept private or confidential.

Pops, your a kind and gentle soul.
It isn't you that they are angry with, It's probably that they feel bad about themselves.
people who are comfortable in their own skin don't want to belittle others.They often are afraid to look at themselves and what is really going on with them.
I have never seen anything that I could perceive as HURTFUL, coming from you, to anyone else.

Regardless, Brittzak... if someone sends me a PM and tells me what their opinion is of me, I do NOT need to keep that communication confidential. It is not a question of bias. In the case of the PM that was sent to Popeye, I was using the term "inaccurate" as a nicer way to express what I really thought: the PM that was sent to him was downright abusive. He had no obligation even to "protect" the identity of the sender, much less the contents of the crappy message.

Popeye, I have never seen you post an unkind message here - in fact you are usually the first to greet the newcomers to this site.

I don't know what would have prompted this PM to you - but that is also kinda my point. Not knowing the circumstances around it (I don't want to know) or the language in it I cannot pass judgment on anything about this.

All I can hope for is peace of mind for you (and everyone else involved) in what sounds like a trying time.

In some ways, this is a thread that should now be allowed to die gracefully... yet I feel a need to add my two kroner, so, sorry, but here it is:

1) Popeye's original post was a simple plea ("open letter"), just asking for "enlightenment" about if he'd done anything wrong. He didn't name the PM-er and he seemed to sincerely want to know what he'd done. It seems a natural thing to do if you were to receive a critical post that you didn't understand.

2) Popeye received a lot of supportive feedback (well-deserved), but he has not got the answer to his question, has he?

3) I also received a critical PM early on when I first joined here. The PM told me I was a hypochondriac and I should go "whine" somewhere else. I was crushed. I almost left quietly, never to return (ha ha, I'm sure there many who are thinking "if only" right now!). But I did post here about it (without revealing the PMer's identity). Like Popeye, I received a lot of support, without which I am sure I would have left forever.

Point is: I don't think Popeye has gone over the line here. And I do think he deserves both an explanation and all the support he has received thus far.

And, of course, I do agree with One2 (as usual) -- not worth a second thought.

Problem is, when it happens to you, it's hard to ignore it, isn't it?

I totally disagree with Wally and Brittzak. If someone sends me a hateful PM I am under NO obligation to keep it a secret, nor to have a discussion with the person who sent it.
