Okay guys, (or girls) I need your help. I have a couple men I need to buy for this Christmas and I don't have any ideas. They are at an age that if they want it, they buy it. One is an avid hunter the other a cook.

So I was just wondering what you guys are asking for. Or girls, what are you getting them?
Men are so hard to buy for. Any ideas are appreciated.

Socks,socks and more socks,maybe undies or stripey PJs or those hankies with your initials, god they were awful
I think going with their hobbys/specialisms can be very difficult, as in hunting or cooking (good combo though!), as they probably already have a lot of stuff and are quite fussy/particular about what they want - is there any chance of getting the inside track and checking with a significant other as in partner, friend, mother etc..
Otherwise, not really of much help - in a similar situation myself except more so for teenage males but I do agree that men seem much harder to buy for.

As a cook i would like a new knife or knives. Global knives are very good. Cook books are also great. Anything by Ramsey, Blummential, Blanc or Marco Pierre white.

Seriously he is getting a Sham wow for X-mas. Billy Mays infomercials are just about the worst.

I can sympathize with your struggle on this.

I am uncomfortable getting gifts (or compliments), and I can never seem to come up with any answers when asked what I would like to get as gifts for xmas, birthdays, father's days and such.

Hard to believe, but people are constantly disrespecting my views and getting me gifts, anyway!!

I have rarely been disappointed when someone gives me a book (or books) that mean something to them, or has affected them in some significant way. I have never been disappointed in personal project-type gifts (some creation or poem or some such). And once I got past childhood, I've never been disappointed in the "basics" -- underwear and socks and ties and the like. Boring I know, but ...

Tickets to a show or a ballgame or gift cards for things like that -- I use and I'm thankful for the experience, and relate that experience to the giver. I know gift cards can seem so impersonal, and they have the damn money amount right on there, but for things like a favorite restaurant or clothing or art store -- they can be very thoughtful and meaningful.

Probably more than you were looking for.

Ok so forgive the unenlightened but what the hell is a sham wow??
Also appreciative to Tiresias -nice to hear that socks and undies are still appreciated!! - I can also relate to how difficult an experience it is to accept a compliment or answer the question of what would one like as a gift, I find that difficult, I really do not want anyone to have to buy me anything or basically do anything for me, if anyone says anything nice I have to query on what grounds they were doing it, alterior motives, felt sorry for me,had to buy me something etc, etc.,

I buy many guy gifts from Lee Valley Tools (LeeValley.com) I buy all of my gardening tools from them, and I LOVE and have lots of tools. They also sell woodworking tools and supplies, and cooking items. Very good quality, outstanding customer service, good value prices: not cheap, but high quality for not too much money.

A Sham wow is this "chamois" cloth thing that supposedly can pick up like a whole liter of spilled soda and is only like the size of two paper towels.

LOL, I am most definately NOT naughty......okay maybe sometimes. But not on this, one is like a brother. Only one BF, who the heck could put up with more than one? :H
