    A thought for Christmas.

I hope that you will have time during this busy period to reflect on what we are celebrating. A baby born to a poor couple in difficult circumstances is commonplace around the world and throughout history. The other elements which surround the Christmas story-the visits of the shepherds and the Magi led by a star and God's messages through dreams and angels-which may seem fanciful to many these days, are actually signals that say this birth two thousand years ago is of significance to every generation and people in every circumstance.

Jesus represented God's presence and interest in all of human affairs, the commonplace as well as the momentous. That would be wonderful in itsels, but Jesus went on to give his life for us. He experienced our death so that we could recieve his life, life that never ends. Jesus said that he had come to give us life, life in all its fullness. When Jesus was born he was coming into the world for you.

Wherever you celebrate Christmas this year, may you have the opportunity to pause and let the wonder of the story touch you, to recieve and give thanks.

Thank you for posting this KP, I think sometimes the true meaning of Christmas does get lost along the way x

      A thought for Christmas.

Thank you, Cym. I know not everyone believes the 'story'. For those of us who do, it is something that we have to combat the cynicism and greed that has become 'Corporate Christmas'. As we downsize each year and as we get older, we come closer to the true meaning! Merry Christmas, everyone!!

How lovely! We've always gone to midnight mass at our church, even though it's the only service we ever go to.......i do keep meaning to change that though! Midnight mass is excellent, a real donkey and everything, the atmosphere is brilliant, you really feel 'holy?!' great for kids and adults alike. Then we all come home at 1am and have a hot mince pie and check whether santa has been! My kids are 12 and 7, but we've always done it, even when they were babies, and they always really look forward to it.

I hate the Commercialism of Christmas. I remind my kids of the "true" meaning every year.

Thanks for posting Chef KP. To us, the word "Christmas" comes from "Christ Mass", celebrating the birth of Christ. I really do not like to hear or see "Xmas". It's lazy and has no meaing. We got GD a teddy bear for Christmas. It does not play "Jingle Bells" or "Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer". It plays "Jesus Love Me".
