    Disease

Call it whatever you want at the end of the day........it's still a problem. A problem with alcohol that brought you and all the rest of us here. Stay strong and you can beat this. Congrats on your AF days.

Quite honestly, I did not see anyone on this thread make a "Judgement Call" nor did I see anyone post in a harsh or cruel manner. Instead, I see different points of view, from differing perspectives. All, information is good food for thought and consideration!

We know for certain that there is a long list of "Reasons" and even "Excuses" as to why we continue the insanity of unhealthy drinking. We understand that there are physical, psycological and even genetic components to this addiction problem. I for one, appreciate the informed input of others. Frankly, had I just labeled my problem as "Weakness", I would most likely not be sober today!

        Hi all,
The expectations from me were always extremely high. Not only from my family, but also from myself. By realising that i do not have to be the best with everything calmed me down. I can have my "weaknesses"(Its not about alcohol here at all,its about other things that triggers drinking)

        The second thing:withdrawals
As i previously mentioned in the other thread i can go AF for months. Then there is a party and i can keep my drinking under control. It is the next day that triggers the binge. Its the withdrawals. I think my body knows that once my hangover is over, i will stay AF for a long time, thats why i am having such bad, bad withdrawals.
I really do not know if i make any sense here, but if it helps someone in similar situation, it is worth it.

Thank you to all of you for all your support and patience with me.

I never said that we are weak because we drink too much. Please read the posts.
We are your friends. You don't need to be alone again. So come along.

          Hi Network,
Thanks for starting this discussion. I learn something every time it comes up, so you are helping me. What's important is that you learn to recognize your reasons (triggers) for drinking, and find alternatives. You might enjoy the book by Allan Carr, Easy Way to Quit Drinking. I think his perspective is similar to yours.
My life is better without alcohol, since 9/1/12. My sobriety tool is the list at permalink 236 on the toolbox thread under monthly abstinance.

Oh yes, Network. I know all too well those expectations of perfection, or something close to that. It can easily lead to drink. Been there, done that.

Welcome here. We are a little nutty, but basically friendly, and always serious, and forever funny about our sobriety.

            Welcome :welcome:
Rest in Peace, Bear. We miss you.

I think I read the post much as One2Many did (shyness etc.) and can see why you might think you need it in social situations.

Network, I was thinking you might like to read something posted by our member Boss.man a while back after he did some research. He explains why you crash after drinking and want more. I found it very helpful.

Alcoholism is mental illness and obsession like for example anorexia . Head is full of wrong ideas like I can drink this time and I am more fun or beautiful when I drink. It does not so really matter what word you use. What can you call it when people drink away their children and familie, money and everything. Like George Best one of the football player ever ( north irish) he had everything. He was good looking, famous, rich , one of the best in football. He had everything, but were did he end... in the bar and died few years ago to soon. He ruined everything for him self, his career in football, with women, and his children.
Disease,,,for me yes , mostly mental and obsession.
                Take care

How are you doing now, Network? Hope you are okay today. Someone just gave me a big "prod" and I wanted that someone to know how much it is appreciated. Mags, I am sorry for the harsh reply I sent to your post, I know that everyone here is trying to help each other in their own different ways, God knows I've needed help before and still do and it comes in every shape and form but always from the heart. Gyco, I'm with you on the positive thinking as lately I've been down "negative alley" and it's not a nice place, is it?! Anyway, just wanted to say thanks to everyone for being here for those in need of a friend.

Last of summer wine i'm doing great. It was such a nice day down here in Sydney. This site, the community here helped me a lot. I was reading some stories here today and i wanted to write my own, but decided not to as i would not know what to write(my life seems very ordinary)

Once again thank you for all of your support, I'm doing great, another AF day passed
