Tell Us About Your Pets :h

These are great stories! Gabby, maybe check the Golden Rescue group when you are ready for another? Anyway, no lectures from me. Do what you gotta do.

Everyone already knows about my 6 mo. old rescue LucyDog because I talk about her all the time. We just came in from playing frisbee @ the baseball park. We go every day, multiple times, because this is where she prefers to have her potty breaks and it is safe being all fenced in. She is now playing with a fake, light weight pumpkin like it is a soccerball. She is a 20 lb rat terrier and looks a lot like Wally's ZippyDog. I love her to pieces but do wish she and my kitty could get along better. They currently have each other on ignore but Kitty has to stay in the master bedroom most of the time. Lucy wants to play with her and she has no interest and won't hesitate to defend herself. I have had Lucy since Sept.

I have a 5 year old lakeland terrier named Henry that is the coolest mutt and my best buddy! He has gotten me thru some tough times for sure. It amazes me how at times I could be at the bottom of the abyss of depression, he would curl up next to me and not leave my side until I felt better. All the while showering me with kisses course! It is amazing the compassion and "six sense" our pets have.

Lisa Chapman's Photos - Our Second Family | Facebook

You can check out link above if you care to see pics as there are far to many to post here. I have a small zoo at my house. I will start with our bunny rascal. He is 3. He a floppy earred. He is my son Zak's. He is VERY tame and cuddly. Next we have Billy...he is our Blue and Gold Macaw. He likes to lay on his back and suck his toes and pout when he gets mad at us. He is still very young...8 months but has learned to say "HELLO and WHATS UP" already. He loves to be scratched under his wings. Iris is our Goffin Cockatoo. She is almost 2. She talks a good bit. EVERY morning she wakes at 6 AM say ing "GOODMORNING IRIS" until I walk through and tell her goodmorning. She can also say "pretty bird Iris, LET ME OUT, come here, Mama, Zak, Brittany, come here Prissy (our dogs name) "...she says everal funny things...Our newest memeber to the exotic bird family is Maxwell...he is an African grey...he can't talk yet...he is only 3 months old and I am still hand feeding him out. He is very intersting to me as he purrrrrsss like a kitten. So funny since he's a bird. We alos have 8 quacker parrots...they are outside. 3 blue ones and 5 greens... I LOVE THEM! Now, for the dogs....
I inherited a rottweiller when Billy passed away...he is a german rotty...weighs in at 185 lbs...he is HARMLESS UNLESS you are a cat. HE doesnt care for cats much. He thinks they are treats. SO, needless to say we have NO CATS here. It is for their safety. AND the birds safety as well. Then we have 3 english bulldogs...Max, Georgia, and Prissy.....and before you ask NO I do not breed my animals...I just love animals. I dont breed any of them. I have 4 acres. They all have PLENTY of room, food, are taken to the vet for shots and check-ups, and are loved. I actually got most of these animals this year.......found a very productive way to stay SOBER. There is NO WAY I could drink and care for them too. Animals are very rewarding.....they love unconditionally. All you have to do is feed them and kiss them and they love you forever.
Forever loved, forever missed Papa Bear

We have three dogs, all rescued. Samson the Labrador, he weighs in at around 100 lbs; Tika the Border Collie, she has a problem with men, she doesn't like them and tries to bite them so we have to muzzle her whenever we have guests, and so far behavior training hasn't corrected the problem she was severely abused as a puppy but she seems to like the muzzle it calms her and takes all the guesswork away it is a soft muzzle so nothing cruel about it, once she has a chance to get used to a man she behaves around them; and Gracie our Chihuahua she was abandoned by the neighbors when they moved away in the middle of the night they left her tied up in their yard so we went and got her, they came back about a week later and said "have you seen our dog?" and we said, "nope".

The grandkids made up this song:

                      Sammie the Labrador
Sleeps on the couch instead of the floor
Give him treats and he barks for more
                      he's a big black labrador

We also manage a feral cat colony, it fluctuates between 9-12 cats depending on the time of year. We work with a local group in a TNR program for the cats. Best Friends Animal Sanctuary is nearby, about 90 miles away and they donate food for the ferals and also help with the altering of the ferals. We also buy food once in a while.

I am also on the board of directors for our local animal rescue group started three years ago as an adjunct to our local animal shelter. We help by fostering animals and raising funds to help low income families with spay/neuter funds and medical assistance. We are also trying to put in a dog park and do community service projects.

Everyone here has beautiful animals. It is amazing how much the animals help in our alcohol dependence recovery, isn't it?

We have three dogs, also all rescued. They are schipperke's. This is an outdoor high energy breed that happens to be one of the smallest of outdoor type dogs, from Belgium.

Schips are working dogs, and we stand assured no one will EVER enter our house unexpectedly.

The dogs are trained to live only downstairs. Upstairs we have an 18 year old Himalayan cat. She is a gentle long haired beauty. But you know, cat's get a distinctive way of living in 18 years. There is a lot of question on whether she lives with us, or we live with her.
