When does the Weight start coming off??

Hi - I am hoping that someone can answer my question. I have an extra perhpas 10 -15 pounds on me that I am certain is because of drinking because I am not a big eater and when I do eat I tend to eat healthy. It's my way of making up for the abuse I put my body through with drinking.

Anyhow, I stopped drinking last Saturday so it's been one week yesterday and I have not lost one single pound. I expected it to kind of fall off.

So I am thinking this is yet to happen, especially with all the water I've been drinking and running I've been doing.

Anyone experience this? Does my body need to catch up and then it will happen?

    Thanks!

When does the Weight start coming off??

    Hi Lynnie,
I'm jealous of everyone here who does watch pounds drop off. It did not happen for me. At first I know I didn't worry about what I ate, just focusing on the alcohol. But then I did stop eating too much and the weight STILL hasn't dropped. I exercise frequently, too. I'm nearly 55, so I'm fighting that post-menopause weight gain. I know diets don't work over time (because they end). I keep focusing on eating lots of fruits, veggies, whole grains, and homemade broth-based soups. I belive I still will be successful. Evening munchies are my downfall. I'm keeping a food diary now, which I believe is a very effective weight loss tool over time. The books Volumetrics and Mindless Eating are very good resources. I also want to lose 15 pounds, get back into my size 8 clothes.
My life is better without alcohol, since 9/1/12. My sobriety tool is the list at permalink 236 on the toolbox thread under monthly abstinance.

      Weight loss

      Hi--
I'm on day 12, and very disappointed because I haven't lost a pound. So, I'll be very interested to hear what others have to say about this. My blood pressure went up because of drinking too, and that hasn't changed yet either, so maybe it takes a while for your body to adjust. I hope so, because I need to see some rewards--it is still hard, and I think about drinking every day!

When does the Weight start coming off??

I am on Day 8 and so far no weight loss; however I "feel" better. I used to wake with a bloated stomach, who knows it was probably my liver swollen to the size of a football, which made it hard to tie my shoes. I have been athletic my whole life, but once the booze really started heavy I started packing some serious fat around the middle. At 6' 1" and 225 pounds I should be around 195 to 210. So, I'm hoping in the months to come (I'll give it two) I should start to see something. But right now, my problem is sweets. Never used to eat them at all....now....all bets are off. I have even started spitting the mess out after I have tasted it (so I don't have to deal with the calories). Great, now I'm freakin bullemic!! God help me.

When does the Weight start coming off??

When I was 9 days af, I was watching what I ate but not too much and also walking a few times a week. I dropped somewhere around 8 pounds but moreso, I lost inches. People noticed. The scale didn't say it as much as my pants falling off did and I lost it in my face.

I've gained over 50 pounds since Hurricane Katrina and I know drinking holds a big part in that. I am trying again. No diets. Just lots of veggies, whole grains, water and excercise. Just like you are doing. Don't get discouraged. It will happen. Let go of the thought of it and you will discover it taking place.

My downfall is eating late also. I did it all my life. Damned habits. But give me the eating late over the alcohol habit anyday.

Good luck and hang in there

When does the Weight start coming off??

When I had some AF time last May and June, I didn't lose any weight either. However, my face doesn't look as red and puffy if I don't drink. I think some parts of the MWO book are just rosier than most of us really experience, IMO, when RJ talks about all the weight she lost.

I do hear a lot of people comments on weight loss with Topamax, so maybe it is just that medication that causes the weight loss.

I was on Topa at the time, Sunbeam. Maybe when people are taking the higher dosages?

I think that I look leaner, am on day 15. I guess this is only because my stomach is less bloated. I am going to give myself 3 months to see any weight loss.

When does the Weight start coming off??

I do tend to loose weight, but it seems to happen from about 2 weeks, then there is a sudden drop. I am not sure why the 2 week wait, but it happens.
I am also much more engergetic when I don't drink and I'm not only talking regular excercise, just the small chores around the house tend to get done more regularly.

I have noticed that when I am day 4 or 5 AF, I loose a lot of fluid.

L-Glutamine encourages lean muscle mass, so I am hoping that it will assist with building up fitness.

Last year I managed quite a number of AF days, on and off. In that time I lost about 10% of my body weight and started fitting into clothes that had not seen the light of day for years. I gained it all back when I started binging again.

I am a very small person and possibly have a slightly above average metabolic rate. I work with people who struggle to loose weight and there are a few pointers that encourage weight loss. Often there is a problem because of insulin resistance, this means that the insulin receptors of the cells are not very efficient. This is a common problem, post menapause.

                      Tips to help:
                      1. Excercise is essential as it increases the effectiveness of the cells.
                      2. Keep the insulin levels steady. This can be done with frequent high protein/low carb meals. I eat 6 small meals a day when I am not misbehaving with AL.
                      3. Keep well hydrated. Green tea seems to help speed metabolism.
                      4. If possible, keep away from all high glyceamic index foods. This causes insulin spikes and can also trigger a binge.
                      5. Take good supplements. This also helps with food craving and cell functioning.

When does the Weight start coming off??

I now have the answer to my own question. I was getting concerned because I stopped drinking on a Saturday (Jan 3rd) and the very next Sat. one week later I weighed the exact same. So it'll be the completion of my second week tomorrow and I will have lost 5 pounds on week 2. So there you have it. I figure the first week AF our bodies are so busy adjusting and ridding itself of toxins that it takes time for one's body to regulate. I only have about 15 pounds to lose which I know is due to AL so this is a positive factor for me. I am very strong as I kick box, run and lift weights so just to get rid of the extra puffiness will feel good!
