Sunbeam has a HUGE point. There may be some kind of fungus or something in the pot that is preventing what you are planting from growing. My FIL is a huge orchid grower and he always tells me to bleach my pots before reusing them because they could have stuff growing on the sides that plain soap and water doesn't get out.
Just a suggestion. The orchids I have have been growing like wild with just a little fertilizer ever couple weeks. I can't believe how often they flower. I could send you a few clippings if you want. I'm in FL.
