WOW you are truly amazing...I loved the pain pill/alcohol feeling so would try to get pills any time I could and anyway that I could..never enough to get me hooked though.
If they would have been available I am sure to have been addicted to them.
You are beating all these beasts and I am so very, very proud of you !!!
i have tears in my eyes and I think you are one of the most honest and brave people on this MWO site. I feel blessed to know you and this site is a much better place because you are here...
Love and pride coming your way ...from my heart to yours...I hope you can feel it...I SURE CAN !

Starty, I am very proud of you as well! I am also very glad you trusted us enough to share this. I can thank God (and I do every day) that I have been able to live my life pain free so medications of any kind have never been any issue for me.
Eating too much and no exercise is my next nemesis to conquer but I'm going to let that go a bit until I know the cigarettes are long gone.
I love you as my sister and want you to know I'll be there for any support I can give. I think you have made it thru the tough part but just know i am right here with you.
          Love, Krigs

              Pain Killer Addiction

Starts, that is such a thought provoking and moving post. Agree with others, that it is our addictive personality that leads us to these things. I have been addicted to alc, coke and when I was younger was addicted to many things like honey, marmite. Its the way were built.
Thank you for sharing. You are an inspiration to me, and your strengh in fighting and winning these battles never fails to amaze me. Thank you for being here starts. xx

                what a timely post.

                Start,
You have no idea what incredibly perfect timing this post has in my life.
I am working on weaning off some pretty heavy duty painkillers RIGHT NOW. I just posted about it in the "meds" section this morning.
I hope you don't mind me thinking your post is a sign to me.
I can do this...I am not ALONE!

I have had to deal with pain since almost dying after being in a MVA in 1992.
Things are getting worse for me, and so the prescriptions keep getting heavier and heavier in their addiction properties.
I have been on oxycontin for the past two months, and in the last month they have added oxycodone into the mix.
I am on day two of trying to get them OUT of my system.
My Doctor thinks I am a little weird, but I flat out told them yesterday I want off these meds...they scare me, and I don't like they way they make me feel. (or maybe I like how they make me feel...too much?...but some side effects are also freaking me out)
ALL alarm bells are going off.
                I have to listen.
How brave of you to share your journey with this as well.
KUDOS to you Miss Starts...you are amazingly strong.:l:l

                  Pain Killer Addiction

Wow! I am truly truly grateful to each and every one of you for your support and kind words. It is a scary thing to admit but I am now very glad I did.
Greenie, thank you for that link, I am going to check it out now.
Keeta, your story breaks my heart, you are most certainly not alone and I will help you in any way I possibly can.
What is helping me break this addiction as with the alcohol and the nicotine is making that decision, that in my life these things are simply no longer an option for me, so I now have to deal with all the emotions that naturally arise instead of numbing them. I have to and will make a good life for myself in a healthy way.
Thank you all so very much, you have no idea how much stronger I feel from reading your replies.

Yes I read that article. There is also a website that specifically deals with over the counter medication abuse
                    Over-Count Drugs Information
                    It is very frightening...
My dog is prescribed valium for stressful situations like firework night. The amount of times I have had to force myself NOT to take them....

                                Pain Killer Addiction

                                Thank you Limey Lou!
Well, I have just read some stats from the Over count website...
Apparently the initial "danger' time is 4-6 weeks for returning to old habits. I have just done 6 weeks and 2 days.
If you can manage to stay 'clean' for 6 months, the chances of remaining drug-free are about 85%
staying clean for 9 months- around 90%
staying clean for 12 months or over - over 97%.
Obviously, there is never a 100% guarantee, but these statistics are based on Over-Count Clients feeding-back since 1995.
