Lent - what's your plan
For those of you that celebrate Lent.. What are you planning to give up for 40 days starting Wednesday? Lent is a time of contemplation and spiritual growth. You are supposed to give up something and also maybe add something you don't currently do that may help you on your journey. I plan to give up drinking at social situations as well as at home (it's a good excuse at a party) and I want to add more time for meditation, prayer and gratefulness.:hTags: None

Lent - what's your plan
I've abstained from alcohol for Lent many a time, but as soon as Lent's over, I find it's an excuse to buy a bottle of vodka and have a binge. I will be modding through Lent this year but hope to do the Carbon Fast with Tearfund: Carbon FastListen for God's voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; He's the one who will keep you on track. Lent - what's your plan
I really wish you hadn't started this thread!!! Have been wrestling with myself over going completely dry for Lent - really feel I should, don't know if I want to etc...... Going to look at the carbon fast thing that Vlad's mentioned but gnawing at the back of my mind is that I really ought to go AF!!! Aagh..

Lent - what's your plan
I must say the timing of me seeking to stop drinking for a while has just struck me today. That is to say it is lent. Then I saw your post about it and decided that this was definitely another good reason to go AF. It will give me a point to focus on, an easy reason for saying no initially, without explanation and then a chance to review where I am at by the end.
Feeling much more cofident and happy than yesterday when I was first madly searching the internet for help .I am finding this site inspirational I must say.
So is anyone else in for AF LENT????

BOP, I like the idea of doing service, thanks! (I've been so selfish lately , the thought of service never crossed my mind) I feel like I have myself on my mind most of the time that it would really be helpful to focus on someone else instead of me and my problems. I will also be thinking about it and revise my plan before Ash Wednesday.

It hadn't really occured to me also. Maybe I'll marry a different type of animal for every day of lent. Starting with cockroaches and rats, and working up to sheep and horses.
Just joking. It amazes me that people practice a faith that denies other people the right to equality under the law. I suppose I'll spend lent praying to Lord gives those people some brains.

Lent - what's your plan
I haven't devised my entire plan yet.....(still have a day!) but, in Mass yesterday the father said we should
1. Give something up/ moderate/ or fast
2. Get closer to God through prayer / mediation / confession / stations of the cross ect.
3. Help those less fortunate / volunteerSometimes I wonder...."Why is that frisbee getting bigger?"...and then it hits me.

Lent - what's your plan
14 days ago God told me in no uncertain terms that I was to stop drinking AL. I had been a heavy drinker for about 10 - 12 years. At home I would be lucky to have one non-AL drink a day. After which I woould start with Rum till the bottle was empty and followed by beer or any other AL I could get my hands on. I had alot of hurt from churches in the past and there was no way I was ever going to get caught up in all that rubbish again. God spoke to me in a way that I couldn't ignore on 12 September 2008 and since this time many things in my life have changed. I still loved the AL even though I knew I drank too much. I tried in vain to cut down, but no joy. It was after I caught myself lying about my drinking that the message came though loud and clear that it stops NOW. I didn't have that one last drink and I take nothing for the cravings. I couldn't do this by myself and I believe it is only by the grace of God that I have made it this far. For lent I will have one day of prayer and fasting each week and will pray for all of us that we will remain AF and be happy with it. God Bless. Caroll

Lent - what's your plan
14 days ago God told me to stop drinking. This is not something I wanted to hear as I really enjoyed it, (as I had for 10-12 years). I would be lucky to have 1 non-alcoholic drink a day. I would start with rum and when bottle was empty beer and then any other AL I could get my hands on. I had been involved with churches in the past and was convinced that I would never get back to that rubbish again. God called me back on 12 September last year and there has been many changes in my life since then. I have tried on several occasions to cut back my drinking, but this never worked. 2 weeks ago I caught myself lying about my drinking. It was after this that God told me to stop. I didn't have that one last drink, there is still half a bottle of rum in the pantry and wine in the rack. I have the withdrawals and somewhat constant cravings and haven't touched AL. I believe that God has given me the strength to resist AL. It has been great to get into this sight and be able to give and receive support from people that understand our battle. During Lent I am going to have a day of prayer and fasting for all of us that are battling though that we can remain AF and be happy with it .

Carroll, Wow! I am very moved by your post! I wish you stregnth. Life is certainly joyous, without alcohol present, for me. I will be fasting one day a week during lent, and starting an exercise program that I have been postponing! Support to all!"It wasn't all I wanted, but all I could stand!":bigwink: Alcohol free since April 8, 2008
