Maddy, im pretty sure it was to use up all the eggs in the cupboard, years ago they gave up eggs for lent Im pretty sure thats where the pancake tradition spawned from.

Well I am interested and thanks for that so it is religious and it is meant to be spiritual. So that is good, maybe god will come to earth and save me, and I am not being flippant here I am being deadly serious. Cos at this moment I can but need support from the great good. Mardis Gras is on now in Brazil is it not. It is very interesting and we lose tradition. But you have put me straight and thank you. I shall look it up. What shall I give up for Lent, bloody alcohol, I so desperately hope.....:h But I have had pancakes today with lemon and sugar and they were just yummy. Crepes actually darlings.....
