How to copy and paste pictures and utube

        Dear Last call,
That is why I don't post or try to post pictures etc. Too damned complex. Maybe codemonkey could have a "How to" section, in plain, easy to understand unabbreviated step by step instructions for we IT illiterates. I mentioned this several time a couple of years ago, but no luck.

How to copy and paste pictures and utube

          Copy & Paste Tutorial
Copy and Paste is the process of selecting, copying, and transfering (pasting) text from one location to another. It is a fast and efficent way to transfer code from a text editor like Notepad to a HTML document in your site filemanager. Or copy selected text from a web page or e-mail and save it to a text document for reference later.

A quick review of how it works is, selected and copied text is saved on the "clipboard" in your computer and then pasted (transfered) to a text editor such as Notepad or Word. The copied text will remain on the clipboard until you copy something else or clear the clipboard.

          --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

          Selecting All the Text:
There are 3 ways to select "all the text" on a page.

Click on "Edit" in the toolbar, and choose "Select All"
Right click on the page, and choose "Select All" from the menu.
Keyboard Shortcut, depress the "Ctrl" key + "A" key.
Select a single word, phrase, sentence, or paragraph.
Place the cursor at the start of the text you wish to select, depress and hold-down the left mouse button. Now drag the cursor in the direction of the text you wish to select. To the right or left for single words or phrases, up or down for sentences and paragraphs. When all the text is selected, release the mouse button.

Selecting Text in a Textbox or Text Editor..
When selecting text in a textarea first place the cursor over the textarea and click once on the left mouse button to activate the cursor. The cursor will now be blinking in the textarea.

Four ways to select all the text in a textarea:
Click on "Edit" in the toolbar, and choose "Select All"
Right click on the textarea, and choose "Select All" from the menu.
Keyboard Shortcut, depress the "Ctrl" key + "A" key.
With the cursor blinking at the top of the textarea, hold down the "Shift" key + the "Down" arrow.
Two ways to select a single word, phrase, sentence, or paragraph.

Place the cursor at the start of the text you wish to select, depress and hold-down the left mouse button. Now drag the cursor in the direction of the text you wish to select. To the right or left for single words or phrases, up or down for sentences and paragraphs. When all the text is selected, release the mouse button.
With the cursor blinking at the start of the text you wish to select, depress the "Shift" key and using the left, right, up, or down arrows select the text you wish to copy.

          --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

          Copy the Text:
Whether you selected a single word, phrase, sentence, paragraph, or all the text on the page the Copy process is the same. Here are three methods of "Copying" the text.

Click on "Edit" in the toolbar, and choose "Copy"
Right click, and choose "Copy" from the menu.
Keyboard Shortcut, depress the "Ctrl" key + "C" key to Copy.

          --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

          Paste the Text:
To paste text you have to be in a textarea, ie Notepad, Word, or a text editor. For those new to Copy & Paste, in a textarea the cursor will be blinking when activated.

To Paste the text, place the cursor (and activate) where you wish to place the text. These are the three methods you can use to "Paste" the text.
Click on "Edit" in the toolbar, and choose "Paste"
Right click on the textarea, and choose "Paste" from the menu.
Keyboard Shortcut, depress the "Ctrl" key + "V" key to Paste.

          --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

That is all there is to it..!
Take a couple of minutes to learn it, and this little feature can save you a lot of time.
I have placed two textareas on this page if you would like to try it. The first text area can be used for pasting text that you copy from the page. The second textarea contains text so you can select and copy from a textarea. Then paste it in the blank textarea.

          Paste text here..!

Select, copy and paste any or all of the text from this area to the textarea above.
That is all there is to it..!
Take a couple of minutes to learn it, and this little feature can save you a lot of time.

          --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You have probably heard the term "Cut, Copy & Paste". To "Cut" text you have to be in a textarea. This feature is used to move a section of text from one spot to another within a document. Or to remove from one document and place in another, or to simply remove it from a document. Here are the three methods to "Cut" text from a document:

Select the text using any of the methods explained above.
If you wish to paste in another location or document.
Click on "Edit" in the toolbar, and choose "Cut"
Right click on the textarea, and choose "Cut" from the menu.
Keyboard Shortcut, depress the "Ctrl" key + "X" key to Cut.

Now place the cursor and activate it where you wish to "Paste" the text. Use any of the methods shown above to "Paste" the text.
If you want to just delete the selected text, use any of the following three options.
Click on "Edit" in the toolbar, and choose "Delete"
Right click on the textarea, and choose "Delete" from the menu.
Keyboard Shortcut, just hit the "Delete" key.

            Part 2

            Click for Part 1 - Part 3

            Search My Site

            (Tip)

Press F11 again to return to the normal screen view

This is part 2 of a 3 part series of lessons about using the Copy & Paste function of your Windows computer. The Cut, Copy and Paste function can save you loads of time. The ability to easily move or rearrange picture files is very handy. You can move a single image or groups of images all at once.

But enough discussion...let's just do it!

            The 3 basic steps are:

Highlight or right-click on what you want to copy
            Copy it
Move to where you want it to appear and paste it in
The right click menu command "Copy" works the same way with pictures as it does with text. As an example, right click on the image below-right and select "Copy". Then open any graphics program and right click/paste the image into the application. This even works with MS Word.

Once pasted, you can then chose to edit or save the image.

Another way to highlight a picture is to "drag" your mouse across the item you want to highlight.

            Example

ieSpell - Spell Checker add-on for Internet Explorer
            Copy this image

Then open a graphics program and paste it.

            Use the Edit menu

            Paste command

Once you have copied the image, open a graphics program and paste it.

Try: Start --> All Programs --> Accessories --> Paint

            or

Open MS Word and paste it in there.

You might also notice in your right click menu the "Save Picture As" command. Use this if you want to save the picture instead of just copying it. Right click on the image above and save it to your Desktop.

The picture above is a .jpg (or .jpeg) formatted picture. .JPEG is short for "Joint Photographic Experts Group", and is pronounced "jay-peg". JPEG is a lossy compression technique for color images. Although it can reduce files sizes to about 5% of their normal size, some detail is lost in the compression.

If you would like to read a brief synopsis of a wide array of graphic file formats, Click Here

            About pasting into Outlook Express:
Paste the image into the message body area of a New Mail Message window.

The mail message format must be set to "Rich Text (HTML) for the image to display.

You can only copy an image into Outlook Express if it is from a web page.

If it is an image from you stored files on your computer, you will need to either use the (Menu toolbar) "Insert / Picture" command

(to display within the message), or the "Insert / File Attachment" which sends the picture as an attachment.

See this Outlook Express page for more information about this.

A free downloadable picture viewer, IrfanView:

IrfanView is a very fast FREEWARE (for non-commercial use)
32-Bit graphic viewer for Windows 98 and Windows ME.

Click Here to see a step-by-step tutorial about downloading and installing IrfanView.

Technical note: When you "Copy" something, it is retained in a part of your computer called the "Clipboard". Whatever is copied remains on your clipboard until you replace it with something else. The clipboard is also cleared, when you shut down your computer.

Some programs will see that you have copied something to your clipboard and ask if you wish to clear the clipboard. Click yes if you've no further need for the item, or no if you want to retain the item.

Cut, Copy Paste to arrange pictures

Using the same methods, you can move the copied pictures around on a page. For example, Cut & Paste paste an image to move it around within an email message. This would work the same way in a word processor (like MS Word or MS Works, etc.

            (Keyboard Shortcut Tip)

You can use the Ctrl + Z key to undo

And Ctrl + Y key to redo

Part 1 covers how to select and copy/paste text from one program to another or within a program to rearrange the composition.

Part 2 explains how to Cut, copy & Paste pictures.

Part 3 completes the series with a discussion of using the copy/paste function to move files.

How to copy and paste pictures and utube

This is something that is MUCH easier to show someone how to do, than to explain it in words! Hell, I know how to do it... but reading the explanation tlrgs just put up just about threw me into despair! Trying to say it in words makes it sound SO much more difficult than it really is! Rags, LastCall, see if you can get someone to show you how to do this, maybe?
