Leprechauns are small fairies once were human but some spell was put on them and became small strange green people ( bet alcoholics). They have a power of hypnotism that play tricks on unsuspecting victims (I think sometimes that they may come on to MWO forum). They are extremely wealthy and carry a croc of gold ( I believe today it is called gold bars or buillions) and they like to hide it in secret locations which can only be revealed if a person were to capture and interrogate them for their money. The ususal secret location is the end of a rainbow (that is why so many people chase rainbows). To answer ur next question are they real- certainly I have seen them on several occasions particularly early on lovely spring mornigs. Impossible to catch they really travel as fast as light once spotted. They are generally harmless creatures who enjoy solitude and live in remote locations, sometimes they can be ill-natured and mischievous, and up to no good. They are usually to be seen around Newgrange and Dublin and (twist in tale) they have been known to change their forms and become like normal humans and therin lies the prob (sorry Starty) I think that u may have slept with leprechauns and u dident even look for the gold. If there is anything else that u need to know on this subject do not hesitate to ask.:H

Hey Zen it is very possible that she could have that no known cure you know, although legend has it that she could be cured if she repeated the sleeping process or alternatively have Evie touch her forhead with a shamrock!:H

Yeh they hang out under the dolmens in particular the Cork ones that is why Cork people have different accents. I believe you I often saw them.

I've had haggis and neeps zennie. My husband, when he was my fianc?, brought a haggis when he came to visit. We had haggis and neeps. It was ALMOST a deal breaker.

When we married I promised to love, honor, and respect, but haggis was not part of the vows. :H

If I were to ask for bacon for cabbage and bacon, what cut of meat would I ask for? I saw a picture of Bacon and Cabbage and it is not what we USAers call bacon.

                      Thanks!!

Ask for the shoulder or collar of bacon. That should do it. If you cannot get that try a bit of ham. Enjoy it

                          The Leprechaun
                          By Robert Dwyer Joyce (1830-83)

In a shady nook one moonlit night,
                          A leprecahaun I spied
In scarlet coat and cap of green,
                          A cruiskeen by his side.
'Twas tick, tack, tick, his hammer went,
                          Upon a weeny shoe,
And I laughed at the thought of a crock of gold,
But the fairy was laughing too.

With tip-toe step and beating heart,
                          Quite softly I drew nigh.
There was mischief in his merry face,
                          A twinkle in his eye
He hammered and sang with tiny voice,
                          And sipped the mountain dew
Oh! I laughed to think he was caught at last,
But the fairy was laughing, too.

As quick as thought I grasped the elf,
"Your croc of gold " I cried,
"My gold?" said he, 'tis in her hand, That lady by your side.'
I turned to look, the elf was off,
And what was I to do?
Oh! I laughed to think what a fool I'd been,
And, the fairy was laughing too.

They sell boiling bacon in the shops over here in Australia but it is not as good. And what I really have craved since leaving home is spare ribs, the pork ones over here never taste the same. Also never heard of corned beef with cabbage until I left Ireland.

Plus St. patricks day here has been ruined by the office workers, who think it is the perfect excuse to hit the pubs during the day and get smashed. No Irish to be found in any pubs in the city.

Today I was teaching my ESL students about St. Patrick's Day, and I found some stuff on The History Channel's website that said that the Irish in New York City back in the late 1800s borrowed the idea of the corned beef from their Jewish neighbors, because corned beef was cheaper than the traditional Irish bacon. Seemed to make sense to me. But it does seem from most accounts that corned beef is an Irish-American tradition. I won't even touch the green beer. Erin go bleechhh!
