Have some "great" memories of the Mercantile - singing the Fields of Athenry (rap version!). Been to Scruffy's too methinks looking for "my people" with a load of Australian accountants I dragged with me from a work conference I was attending. Needless to say I dumped them as soon as I could and didnt turn up at the conference the next day - was probably asleep in a gutter somewhere. God dont want those memories to come back in. Out out damn memories....

        Hey Betty
How did your trip to Dubai go? I am just booking mine (stopover) at the moment and am wondering what the hell I will do there sober! Last time I was there we slept all day and stayed up all night. I think we were the only women to pay for our own drinks in the pub - the rest were all ladies of the night shall we say. My friend who I stay with is in Jumeriah (Sp?) and she is big drinker although unlike me (the old me that is) she never lasts very long and is usually unconscious by 8pm.

I had a great time, but my friend has a baby, so no major partying! How long are you staying, and are you staying with your 'friend who drinks'? We did the big malls and had some nice food, I exercised and read! I sat by the Marina and people watched - fascinating.

Okay good idea but where can I find a baby? Would your friend loan me hers do you think?
Yes I will be staying with the drinking friend (all my friends drink!) and I hate malls and shopping! Food is good I will definitely do that a lot. Last time I was there I exercised (walked very very slowly) and after two minutes I thought I was going to die of a stroke - mind you that was in July and it was 48 degrees or some thing like that! It will be interesting I tell you....

It made me cry too Betts...

Oh you people are funny - Boozy did you see that thing on the tv about the 'real babies' - they're little dolls (really lifelike) and this lady had heaps of them & she'd take one out and loved it when people ooh'd & aah'd over the baby. If she didn't get heaps of attention she'd be upset - quite strange. You could get one of those!!! LOL God in my old days I'd be 'Bugger it, I'm off to the pub'...slap the baby on the bar & order a drink...

Had a hairy 1/2hr tonight but I'm over it...got a cuppa & off to watch Top Chef.

                  xo

Oh, it wasn't the Mercantile but I have been drunk there...first time I ever saw green beer was at that pub. St Paddys day...the place was sooo chocker.

Ezz, I'm sorry about the Mums...there's seems to be a bit of a clique at my sons kindy also with the Mums. I often try to pick if any of them have a drinking problem...it would be fascinating to know, they all look so straight Mum type people but then I probably do too! (although I'm a hot Mum ) :H

                      Hey Angel
Well done on getting through Thursday (almost). No I missed the doll progamme thankfully I think. I guarantee you half of those stuck up women probably do have drinking problems! I remember when my daughter went to kindy first you had to do mother help one day a week or something like that . I was like WTF we bring them here so we can get away from them why would we want to stay and help! So we reached a compromise and I said I would go on the finance committee if I didnt have to do the mother help thingy. Right says I lets have the meetings is in the local pub. Once they got over their initial shock they all agreed (a bit of a novelty I think) but by god I had them all drinking and smoking before the night was out even the straight laced Amish types - even if I did have to pay for most of the drinks myself. Not that I am proud of that terrible behaviour or anything. The moral of the story is.... hmmm no there is no moral to that story at all.

I must say they aren't really clicky, apart from one person. I speak to everyone but not everyone speaks to eachother. Who knows why. I do know that a lot of them drink, they are quiet open about it. And I don't mean moderated drinking. It is not uncommon to find mothers groups over here who drink AL during the group meeting (sparkling wine, like it makes you less over the drink driving limit), happens without fuss.

Just want to add that those dolls freak me out. There used to be a shop over here that specialised in them, the windows were full of these real life babies.

G'day everyone! All's cruisey, but delightfully busy here. Great going on the af journey Ezz, Betty, Angel, and any other quiet achiever's out there!
Angel, my avocado tree does bear fruit. Big beautiful avocado's. However, i share the tree with next door, (it grows by the fence) and my side of tree, took the brunt of the afternoon sun/heat during those 45c day's in late Jan. The leaves on my side are burnt/shrivelled up, on the other side they're greener, but not sure if tree is still alive. Do you think i should cut back the dead leaves/branches? We've had a bit of rain, and i've watered it a few times, so i'll keep an eye on the poor thing. It truly is a majestic tree.
                          Hope everyone is well.....................G.
