    When going get's tough...

    To stepintime..

A question asked by myself many time's over 30 years...but a question that can never really have a positive answer .. I did what I did I fell in love with an American woman and decided that that's were I wanted to be...Life go's on I will live with any mistakes ...but I will never let my mistakes be a judgement of who I am or weather what I did was the right thing..hindsight is 20/20

Clearly perseverence is the key thing. You just stick at it and just stay in their faces (meider their heads as they say in Ireland) so that they cannot just ignore you and they will do anything to get rid of you. Even set up your sleeping bag in the doorway just be the biggest pain in the butt that you can so they will go the extra mile. After all you are a UK citizen and if you read the UK papers it sounds like every other nationality is happily living off the state. Demand your rights and dont back down. Worst case scenario I think the standdown period is 26 weeks for being ordinary resident in the UK and therefore able to claim. Have you checked out whether the US has a reciprocal agreement with the UK with regard to NI contributions? I know that NZ has. That means that even if you havent paid UK NI if you paid similar in the US (not sure of time frame though) that you would be treated as having paid them in the UK. And it is a big move to go back but sometimes people just feel more comfortable with their own kind in the end. It is all about belonging and the call of "home" is always strong no matter what life throws at us all or where we all end up. Thinking of you.

Sean, I am just gobsmacked about this, I dont understand it at all. Even an asylum seeker would be given a place to stay and a few bob! I would go to the police. Find out where your nearest MP hangs out and lobby him/her, would say they have clinics somewhere today. This is an appalling way to treat anyone. Somehow, I can visualise everything working out ok for you though.

                Totally . . .

I moved to Alberta years ago. Spent 17 years there, and longed to move back to Ontario but could not afford to . . . then my mother become ill and I got on a plane and came back to Ontario for a visit thats when I really new where I belonged.

A year later I told my husband I wanted to come back to Ontario for a visit. He agreed, I drove back to Ontario in my car, I never returned to my home in Alberta. Three very long months later my husband and 4 (teenage) children joined me here in Ontario.

It has been 22 years since I came HOME and I have NEVER regretted my decision!

You are truly happiest where your heart is!

Be well my friend and stay strong . . . YOU CAN DO THIS!

ps . . .My Kids are happy as well!

No, they don't always come back.
And I understand that maybe you're trying to be patriotic...but it sounds nasty...
