Hey Beth,
Sorry you are still held captive in your hosp. room. Yucko! (the hospital room I mean) My mom had Chron's. I'm sure you know it's in the Auto immune catagory. Normally flare ups are isolated to specific sections of the intestine. Not what you would call hereditary, but does have familial tendency, especially female decedants. Mothers, daughters, grandaughters, skipping generations - hit and miss because of the genetic roll of the dice. May be managed successfully with anti inflamatories and diet, depending on the severity. Final outcome of some episodes require bowel resections (inflamation can lead to death of the section of the bowel which leads to obstruction which leads to perforation = peritonitis) (This is the ultimate outcome to avoid!) Generally first diagnosed in the mid to late 20's. But can be miss-diagnosed as IBS and other problems until an extreme episode leads to proper diagnosis. Lots of people with Chrons also have had problems with stomach ulcers, as was the case with my mom. Take especially careful care of yourself Beth - I mean really, please! Love, Sherry
