    New, Starting Meds Today.

I found this sight last week, it looks like what I've been looking for. I've been trying to stop drinking for three and a half years now.....thats the first time ive admitted that. I'm staring the topamax today. I can't spend the rest of my life waking up every morning with regret from getting drunk the night before. The few sober nights I have, I wake up feeling sooo guilty for not spending more time with my son because i'm usually to busy drinking. This has GOT to stop. I cant make it to AA. Not sure I would want to, I live in a small town. I'm glad to find this site. I believe life can be good without alcohol..probably much better than it is now. I can finally say today, I am ready. I know it wont be easy, but here I go!:new:

      Bravo!

      Dear Here2change:
Two months ago I started out on the My Way Out Program. I was drinking 2000 calories a day in Scotch and Vodka. I found the My Way Out website while researching drugs for alcohol withdrawal. I downloaded and read Roberta's book and immediately ordered the supplements and Hypno CDs. I am a coward who knew I needed help to stop alcohol. I convinced my PCP to give me a script for topiramate and to monitor my progress in MWO. His preference was residential rehab and AA.

For three weeks I followed the MWO Program, topiramate, supplements, CDs, Community Posting and Support. I tried to cut down during this time by having a "one hour rule", I would wait one hour after getting home before my first drink. On 19-Apr-2009 after the one hour I didn't feel like having a drink. I haven't had one since.

Take things one day at a time. (ODAT)
Follow the MWO Program as closely as possible
      Listen to the Hypno CDs
Seek help, tips, and support in the Community Threads and Posts

While I believe I am over the initial physical withdrawal, I must learn now how to cope with psychological issues. But I know there are many Community members out there who will help me.

Welcome to the Community and God bless you in your journey.
