    Success!

    Hello,

I used to visit here over a year ago (cant remember the screen name I used). I was giving the MWO program a try. I had graduated to hard whiskey and was drinking heavily 3 to 5 days a week. Everything I did revolved around creating an excuse to drink.

One day in the bookstore I just happened to see Allen Carr's "Stop Drinking the Easy Way" (think I got that right) and bought it on a whim. I read it cover to cover, had one final drink and have not had nor have I really wanted a drink since.

Since then I have read some reviews on the book out of curiousity ... some good some not. Im really glad I read it without seeing any reviews first.

Anyway I havent had a drink in well over a year (nor have I had any strong urges)! Mr. Carr's book worked for me and I just wanted to pass that along.

    Thanks!

    That's awesome Snuffy!!
I have only heard good reviews about Allen Carr'sbook although I haven't got around to reading it yet. I believe the one to quit smoking is also really effective.

Thanks for the post. Knowledge is power, and you never know if the book MIGHT be the answer for someone else.

Congratulations on your 1 year SNUFFY, that's fantastic!

I'm doing very well but I wouldn't mind reading that book. I'm always open for useful ideas.

Hope you plan to stick around with us. You really could be an inspiration for someone that's struggling.

        Congrats again!

Good for you Snuffy! I didn't think much of that book but I'm a great believer in trying all sorts of possible solutions until something "clicks" - and that will be different things for different people.

              Success!

I've just recently read Allen Carr's "The Easy Way to Stop Drinking" at Snuffy's suggestion. The first 38 pages are available at The Easy Way to Stop Drinking: A ... - Google Book Search. I got enough from the first pages to order the book. Just another tool for my toolbox. I know, I know ... it's a guys thing.

I hope everyone is having a great day and I'll come play a little later in the day.

              My best to all

I purchased the book, but haven't read it yet. I've been dabbling in other books such as Sober for Good, Happy Hours, Note Found in a Bottle, Willpowers Not Enough, and several AA books.
So far AF 24 days and still counting......will have to read that book the next day I have some bad cravings.

I read allens book and he is amazing and smart. alot of things i thought were very true. how we drink to feel normal, what normal people feel. and when we're not drinking were not feeling normal, but rather maybe down or apathetic. so if we get off of drinking, we'll eventually feel normal without alcohol. its a great book, but he said how alcohol gives no pleasure, no nothing, which isnt really true. for the most part of course it causes devastation, but there is that "feeling" it gives you mentally and physically that people like. but its a great book and has helped me be af certain days when i just think of all the bad things he said about alcohol.

ahhhhh, sounds so good. change is a wonderful feeling. There is NO pleasure in drinking. Ppl just think they are happy when drinkin only to feel different after they are done. Is it really worth it to feel ill only to find out all the bad things we may have said or did during a drunken state of mind? happy to hear about your success me1455. have not read the book and most likely will not. i am well on my way this time. its a learning process one eventually figures out, that booze it not a way out. it keeps you in a small lonely world alone afterwhile. who wants that? i sure don't.

                        :thanks:

Congrats to you. I've been thinking that it is time for me to find a good book to read. The ones I have didn't help much. I think I'll check it out.

hi snuff,i will probably pick it up,sounds interesting,im glad it worked for you,the book, theory,as far as knocking AA,it is an individual thing, but yet so is drinking,to a person with an Al problem, lets face it,there is money to be made in treatment, but theres more in selling spirits, isn't it the 18Th amendment in the states, which was tried, back in the early 1900 s ,didnt work cause there was too much money to lose, drinking has been here since the beginning of time, alcoholism is very easy, thing to understand ? just dont touch the stuff,i have another book for you to read,Healing the addicted Brain, again congrats gyco
