    June 30 2009. My Last Drink! Anyone Want To Join Me?

    Hi Guys & Girls.

    I've reached a point in my life where enough is enough.

    I have been seriously contemplating giving up al all year and now have made the firm decision to do so on June 30 2009.

    I gave up last year for about 4 months and it was the best I've felt in 20 odd years. I'm now 37 years old and have to do this not only for myself, but also for my wife and 3 great kids.

    I got a glimpse of what being alcohol free is like and personally I feel that there is no comparison.

    Having said that, I will be giving up alcohol permanently on June 30 2009 and would love anyone who is considering doing the same to join me.

    I look forward to hearing from anyone who may be interested.

    Good for you! You already know how great it feels--no reason not to go for it!!:welcome:

    I have been totally AF for over 8 months now, and it feels great--no real desire to drink either which is nice. I wish I would have done this at your age~!

      How much do you drink, and do you plan on tapering down before June 30? I'm currently tapering, but might be doing it too quickly (I drink quite a bit every day). Just curious. Thanks, and best of luck to you - and all of us!
      AF for two years. Slight relapse. Working on it at the moment.

        That is wonderful!! It's great that you already know how good you will feel. That''s a terrific motivator. Just wondering, any particular reason you picked June 30th?

            I'm still drinking quite heavily.

            I get back from a holiday on June 27 and will start tapering from then.

            I'm quite lucky in that I can taper quite quickly. I get some nasty headaches, but that's about all.

            We are all different though.

                Thanks for the support.

                I picked June 30 as I will be back from holidays and will be well and truly over it by then.

                Also being June 30. (end of financial year) it is easy to remember. It is also a reminder that I have given my fair share of taxes to the tax office via alcohol. :-)

                        There is something exciting about setting a date and looking forward to it! I quit on Jan 1 - 08 and since I like to occasionally "count" where I'm at ... it makes it easy to remember ... But trust me ... at some point you will stop counting ,,, I never thought I would because I'm a little compulsive (ya think?) but life does have a way of moving on .. which is a great feeling!

                          Yeh I hold my age pretty well considering how much I've abused myself. :-)

                          So June 20 for you hey? Sounds like a plan.

                          I'm not gonna be much support for you though unfortunately. June 20 is when I head up to Queensland with the family. I think my wife would kill me if I took the laptop. I'll be back on the 27th though. I expect you to have 1 week under your belt by then ok!

                            I'm like you. I would have loved my date to have been Jan 1 but I was drinking well after midnight. :-)

                            I figure June 30 is pretty easy to remember though. How could I forget, my taxes are due. :-)

                            Congratulations on your great achievement! That is a really great effort. What would you say have been the most important factors to your success? You truly are an inspiration to those of us who aspire to lead af lives.

                              i love to join you but 30th of june is my birthday so i'll join you the first of july, if you don''nt mind.
                              i've already cut down from two full bottles of wine 0.70cl (litre and a half) to two little bottles of wine, ie.
                              17.5 cl ie. half a full botle
                              life is simple its just not easy
