Scrubbly, good for you on staying strong and not drinking. You can beat this and hold your head up high. Make a new name for yourself.
I live in a small town too and they put it in the police section of the larger paper and the smaller free ones. It so is like the Scarlett letter.

      Take care

I do commend you for staying AF, hopefully this is what it took for you. Just be grateful it's only some embarrassment you have to get over and nothing worse. When I was 7 yrs old, my whole family was in a car coming home from a nice dinner out and we got hit by a drunk driver. My dad's whole left side was crushed. He lost an eye, broke his jaw, all of his ribs were broken and he nearly lost his leg on that side also. He was in the hospital for over a month, I was terrified of him the first time I saw him. He lost his sight in one eye of course, had a big scar on his face and walked with a limp afterwards. His days of playing ball in the yard with us kids were over. How do you think you would be feeling now if this is what had happened instead of just getting your name printed in the paper. Sometimes I think people feel that dwis are just there to ruin a fun night out. I don't mean to sound harsh, I just hope you see how lucky you really are.

I think it is completely unfair for anyone's name/mugshot to be posted in a paper until they have been deemed 'guilty' by a Court of Law. Complete nonsense!

I also think that publishing a persons name or mug shot for everyone to see is ludicrous. I would like to believe that anyone in this situation already feels shame, humiliation, and hopefully remorse for their actions.

BUT, I do think that anyone who is caught again should face the humiliation & a jail sentence.

            Been there...

Scrubs, I've had two of these myself (spaced way apart and got out of the first one). On the first offense here, you can plead no-lo contendre (sp?). This is like throwing yourself on the mercy of the court without pleading guilty. It sometimes reduces your fine and lets you keep your license as long as you take an AL awareness class. I feel for you bud. After the shock of it all, and the legal stuff, you can get through it. I had to get SR-22 insurance for a while, but I made it. Learned a BIG lesson too.
Hang in there. Anyone who judges you for your mistake isn't worth worrying about. You'd probably be surprised at how many of them may have spent a night in the pokie.

              DUI arrest

I feel for you. DUI is a horrible stigma to have attached to ya, kinda like a scarlet letter. Only a D instead of the A. While I had a long proud history of being a drunk, I was fortunate though I rarely drove if Id been drinking, unlike many of my family members. While you may feel bad for being branded with the scarlet D, remind yourself of why so many prosecutors HATE the idea of a DUI arrest actually going to a trial- very few people on a jury have never drank and drove at some point. Make yourself feel a bit better and read about our elected officials who have DUIs and felony convictions here:

              THE CRIMINALS IN CONGRESS

And dont forge the most famous DUI case of all time- Sen. Ted sinking Mary Jo after a night of boozing.

And then, once youre in a better mood and realize that youre in great company, remind yourself that if you ever DO drink again, you wont do it so stupidly and drive anything anywhere. Look at it this way- if you're gonna drink and be a drunk, pride yourself on being a responsible drunk and not one that got loaded and ruined a bunch of other people's lives.
              While there's life, there's hope.

Scrubs, i did get mine dismissed. I had a great lawyer who believed in me (really good guy). However, the reason i got off was that the cops didnt actually see me behind the wheel and they never called the witnesses.

I think i have said it before this was a "gift" that i am not going to ignore.

UGH - DUI arrest in the paper!!!

Hi Scrubbly, glad you could share this trying time.

In my lil corner of the world ( and I do mean little ) every week there is another person with a DUI, DWI (not sure how it is spelled) I guess my point is that everything happens for an reason. If it were my name in the paper I think I would post it on my fridge to remind me and my family and friends that I will NOT ever let this happen again.

Then I would knee down and Thank God that I didn't kill or seriously injure anyone.

With literally tears in my eyes . . . I say to you all:

"I am not trying to be harsh but I know far too much about family emergencies, death and injuries because of drinking or drugs while driving".

Best of the best to everyone . . . :l

UGH - DUI arrest in the paper!!!

Hi Scrubby, I was arrested and it was in the paper. No one at work talked to me personally about it but I Know they were talking about me. Work is gossip city. Anyway, I never talked about it to co-workers, minded my business and worked hard at the job. Soon they find something else to talk about if you do not fuel their fire. Good Luck

I figured if it hadn't shown up by now it wouldn't, ya know? But I should have known in a town that size it would take a while for someone to trot over and look up the arrest files.

Oh crappers. I have been trying so hard to get over all this and move on, do my stuff with the legal things, haven't had a drop since it happened, yatta yatta.

This feels like just another defeat. I'm trying hard to not let it get me down but it is hard today. :upset:
Added baggage that comes with driving under the influence. Sure upsets anyone.
Don't worry about it scrubbly, Mayors, Celebs and all kinds get busted and it is smeared all over the place. Nosey people end up with skin cancer on their nose. Ahh, shake it off, you be surprised whose name is in the paper next.

                        Do not worry.

Scrubs, just poked in from subs and saw this you are so not alone. I was arrested 8/7 2008. It was in the newspaper in my little town. My hair stylist husband is a sherrifs deputy he told her and don't you know (being in a beauty salon) it went like wildfire. I even stopped going to her for a while. It died down my trial is next month I am going to be convicted and it will be in the paper and there goes another round of humiliation. Yes it's costly but what is cost you emotion stress is beyond belief. Wishing you the best
