I have come off (and gone back on obviously) Prozac 4 times now. Three times I thought Oh Feck this....and gave up the ghost.....one other time I persisted and Jesus Christ ! I had 2 and 1/2 MONTHS of symptoms....went off it too fast I think....dizziness....prioception problems ie: couldn't adjust my head position in space...vision disturbances..... extremely SHITTY and intolerant the whole time....eventually a young doctor I use to work with said LOOK Bridge....you just NEED it....what is your prob with being on it ???(sense of failure , why doesn't anyone ELSE need it etc ) He explained that a lot of health professionals use it because it's either that or not practice at all.... ??
Look I hope not to be on it forever either....but really, you could do worse, and give yourself some time, love OK ???

Gosh! Thanks Bridge! I thought prozac was supposed to be one of the easy ones to come off, I tapered for 6 weeks, but maybe thats not enough?
Shite, these things are horrible arent they?
Maybe I am expecting too much of myself.
Thanks for sharing that Bridge, I REALLY appreciate it :l

You are right Irish, I am trying to change my thoughts and behaviours at the moment too. Maybe I need some help in that area.

Starty, I'm glad this came up. Prozac has been AMAZING for me and helped me through a very hard time....years actually...I have NO side effects at all. It has been a gift.
I have read on other threads that Prozac was NO trouble to get off at all for some people..........I COULDN'T agree less...... It was HORRIBLE ... if I ever come off it again....I am going to do so over a SIX month period. I CANNOTgo through that shit again....Obviously the withdrawal experience is as individual as the experience of the drug itself...I know quite a few people who had panic attacks and manic attacks whilst taking the drug....no such thing for me ,....quite frankly I love it's effects....it's just the withdrawal.
          Glad I could help.

Starty, I have to take AD for my med condition. It is rare to find anyone with a chronic medical condition who does not have some depression. There was a time, a few years ago before I was diagnosed, when all I could do each day was sit, and I didn't even have MWO then! Don't look at it as a crutch but as wings, giving you the ability to do the things you should be able to do.

                Rubes, thanks for posting this.
I guess my feelings are that I no longer have a medical condition i.e depression so therefore I shouldnt still need the meds.
I suppose it all depends on whether I still have it or not....but how the hell do you find out?

Tough call, Starts. Thats something you and your doc have to decide, and I hope you feel comfortable with the doc your seeing. Stopping AD's too quickly or without med advice is VERY dangerous, and can upset the balance the chemicals have created while we've been taking them. Just be careful, sweety, and if the suffering is too much, and too long lasting, then its obvious the meds are needed right now.

Ahh, is he a ginger Tom? Get him 'done' as soon as, or you'll have all the lady cat owners dumping giner kittens on your doorstep - he's very cute.
