    Graduated from SHARP

Well I finished my final day of treatment on Thursday and graduated from SHARP with some solid foundations to keep me in recovery. YUP I finally believe myself today that I am actually in recovery rather than a dry drunk or powder-less junkie. It was bloody hard work to break me but I had one of the toughest counselors in the place and she never gave up on me. My graduation ceremony was overwhelming with the feedback people gave me on how I had impacted their lives in treatment and I feel totally humble and grateful today for what I have and who I am as a person.

The organisation I first approached to get support for my addiction has also offered me a voluntary placement as a drug/alcohol support worker or 'fixer' and I start on Monday. I'll be doing my NVQ levels in drug awareness and many other courses involving relapse prevention, counseling, illness in recovery (HIV, hepatitis etc.) and I'm looking forward to being of service in the community where I grew up and spent my own childhood. I can't take full-time employment as a fixer untill I am at least 12 months clean and sober which I am working towards a day at a time so 7 months to go!!. I'm also doing a creative writing course and photography course with an organisation called The Spider Project that gives addicts the opportunity to engage in many activities and be around fellow addicts for support. I'm actually going on one of the outward bounds trips next week to Delamere Forest mountain biking and can't wait!!!

I don't want to take anything away from the My Way Out program but for me I needed breaking good and proper and the 12 step way of life is the only way that will keep my in recovery if I remain focused and aware of my old behaviours. Always believed 12 step fellowships and treatment centres would rip away my soul but I've never felt more spiritually alive in my life.

Will keep you informed of my progress and it's good to see so many new names I haven't seen before reaching out for help here.

    Love and Happiness ALWAYS
    Phil the Hippie!!

                        Hippie!!
That is amazing! I know this will encourage so many and as you said, it is not that MWO isn't awesome, it is just that some need more. MWO is great if you can do it alone at home and with online support, but sometimes you need to just separate from the world and be in a place of face-to-face bootcamp and accountability. That makes perfect sense, and I love the fact that you are actively making steps toward a goal of helping others. Giving back all that you have attained... what a reward at the end of this battle!

                        All my best to you.
