a possible mini vacation
My family is planning a weekend vacation soon. A part of me want to drink. But the other part of me doesn't. I hope to not drink. I want to have a good time, without being drunk. I dunno when we are going to do it and if we are, but thought that I would post here now just in case. And next week is the fourth of Juy. I don't want to drink there neither.
It would just be an in town motel though due to Tigger and the other pets. But its still a mini vacation.I quit drinking on March 8, 2020. Taking it One Day At A Time and no more taking my quit for granted.
Also doing it for me. I got to stay sober for me.
Just consecrate on today and do what you can to remain sober for today and worry about staying sober tomorrow, tomorrow.Tags: None

Hi Alison, get yourself prepared now. Sometimes just saying "I hope not to drink" isnt enough. You need to put some strategies in place before you go. For example, supplements, distraction activities. Anything to keep you away from picking up that first one.
Good luck!!Living now and not just existing since 9th July 2008
Nicotine Free since 6th February 2009

a possible mini vacation
Hi Alison,
There was a part of me that couldn't imagine having a good time without drinking.
I was so conditioned to drinking that it seemed an absolute necessity as part of any 'fun' I might have been planning. You can imagine what happens. On drink then another. I might make an arse of myself or I might not but the day would always end with me blacked out somewhere and feeling like shit the next day. Well, those days are gone. I love telling people that I don't drink. It's a right that I've earned and something that I'm proud of and although I don't go out drinking socially, (and it's not something I miss) I do socialise and have a good time without the attendant guilt and all that goes with it. Normal times are better aswell, so all in all it's a total win-win situation for me.
Good luck and enjoy your vacation.

Hi Alison,
Ditto on what Starts said -- you can't just HOPE to not drink.
If you don't want to drink then get a plan together. Have you considered buying yourself one of those really expensive AF drinks (wine or beer) as a treat for on your holiday.
I am not usually a beer drinker but one of those AF beers does the trick for me if I want something special without compromising my AF-ness.
Oh and don't forget to pack your suppliments."The person who says it cannot be done should not interrupt the person doing it"

Hi Alison
If you dont want to drink make a plan only you can decide when and if you will ever drink again. Do not allow circumstances (such as a weekend) dictate to you when you should/shouldnt. I was on holidays recently and I thought that I might drink during them then I figured that I had put so much work into AF that it would not be good for me. So I made my decision before I went that this would not happen. Once I was FIRM on my decision there was no quibbling! and I really enjoyed my holiday.
