Macks, don't concentrate on being away from your family.... concentrate on becoming well for you and your family.

See this as a gift not only to yourself but to your wife and children.

            Good luck!

                      stomach pain

Macks, Im excited that you are excited. I was thinking as we do the countdown why dont we also help you pack. I dont know if you have ever been to rehab but i can tell you are out of luck if you dont bring the right things:

So i will start the list:
                      1. Some wont let you where shoes with shoelaces so check to make sure that you can have them
                      2. Actually check that you can have strings in sweatpants too
                      3. Sweatpants
                      4. T-shirts
                      5. Nothing that contains alcohol (listerine etc.)
                      6. Toothpaste (enough to make it through)
                      7. Toothbrush
                      8. Most that i have been to (and see how i said most which indicates more than 1) have a place to purchase items like (soda, chips, ice cream) make sure you know how much money you can have and you have change available. Sometimes the dollar changers dont work.

Anyway those are my two cents. Good luck

                        Macks,

                        Cacky has a great idea.

As a two timer, one thing that was critical was having a way to call home. In our case it cost money. There was only pay phones. No cell phones allowed.

So, insure you have enough CHANGE for pay phones (call and find out how you can call home) and insure they store all but what you need for a couple of days in their safe. You have no idea how much theft happens in rehabs. You'd think there was a bunch of drunks or addicts there.

Comfy clothes are critical. Have lots of underwear and socks. We had a community washer and dryer and it was backed up all the time.

Pictures of your family will help. Trust me, some days just looking at those pictures helped get me through.

Paper, envelopes and postage stamps so you can write and mail. It will help you to be able to write home every day. It did me. We weren't allowed to use the phone to talk to family for the first week (through detox) and sending mail and receiving mail was a huge comfort.

Find out if you can bring some reading material. They may only let you bring AA related readings, though, but having something to read helped me a lot.

No toiletries with alcohol. Hair spray, shampoo, etc.

I guess make up won't be an issue for you.

Gosh, I am so excited for you. You will learn an amazing amount of things there. Keep your handouts for when you get home. It helps to reread that material sometimes.

If I think of more, I'll post.

If you have any questions about rehab, I'll be glad to answer.

No matter what questions my manliness im not afraid to say Cinders and Cacky you brought a real tear.. Without trying to sound like a corney shit your here with me...Helping

The English arnt good at stuff like this... But thankyou..The place im going i dont think is as strict... I did a detox in the Castle unit in 2006 which was a mixed building with differnt units..We shared grounds with people with all sorts of problems..I got mates with a lad from lancaster and an old fella from blackpool..Pretty simalar to me although the old fella was proberly in the state i am now but i wasnt that far gone then...The old fella worked on the peirs...north i think..He was really crude..but i git his sense of humour...TRhe other lad was younger than me...Maybe 25 26...He had more issues...i think reguarding his kids..They both had alcahol issues and were in my unit but as you know it's not always just alcahol..

It was a hot summer in 06...I remember us sitting after detox on the lawn outside..This girl was no more than 20 sitting under a tree reading...We were listening to the euro 2006 games on a radio...Well every 2-4 minutes this girl screamed as if she was being murdered...then carried on reading...Its amazing after a while you get used to it...A few days later a guy of about 50-55 must be weighing 30 st....Sat next to me on a bench and looked deep into my eyes..." are you the squirrel ?"..

I learned a lot there...Not about relapse but about life..Everyone has there own isues..me included..i wish when i came out i never drank again..but i thought i could control myself ...

Getting to 30th June 2009.... I know i cant.. Not alcahol.. But alcahol isnt the be all and end all, it the simpler things in life i really crave... Normality...I could go on but i wanna spend some time with my lisa now..We live about 4 doors down from a pub so as im going very soon we went for a last meal and a few drinks.. Said goodbye.. I enjoyed lisa's company and friends...I didnt even get too drunk...sister in law did that...Just said goodbye...

Honest to god i been on vodka since 11am this morning and its12-43 am now and i should be under a table somewhere...but my mind is so clear..

I dont need this anymore..I have drank my fill:l
I don't care who you are...Your not walking on water while i'm fishing..
One drink is too many... A thousand is never enough...Sober since July 2nd 2009

                            Macks,

I can't remember whose signature it is but it is, and this is a paraphrase,

"I didn't drink all I wanted but I drank all I could stand."

                            You are there, Macks.

I am glad you had a good evening meal with Lisa and family. More importantly, I am glad you are ready to go. You want this, which will make it mean so much more.

I am sending my prayers up for you, Macks. You are almost there.

                            Love,

Mac, I had a tear when I read your post. Wow, you are so ready. That must be kind of a "high" in itself. I'm so excited for you. And, as someone else said, by this time next week you will be playing a whole different ballgame.

ONE more sleep. You're practically there!
