    Alcohol: A Crazy Poison

I felt the need to reflect on how poisonous this stuff is to our bodies. I've been hitting the sauce heavier than usual as of late, for no apparent reason either being that I have a good life, and today I paid for it by suffering some painful alcohol withdrawal. Many of you will know what I mean. The sweats, intense anxiety where you feel as if you're going to jump out of your skin, jitteriness, rapid heartbeat. In any case, I'm lucky that I had access to Ativan (which I take sporadically for anxiety issues), so I was able to curb the withdrawal about an hour after taking the pill. That said, my body must be in bad shape because this time the Ativan only worked for a limited time, and by around 9pm the jitters and intense anxiety and rapid pulse had returned with a vengeance. But of course, we did this to ourselves because about 10min after consuming a double scotch to relieve these symptoms I'm slowly beginning to feel normal again. Crazy stuff. I hated this withdrawal reaction so much that, as in the past, I know that it will enable me not to get blasted tonight after I have just a few drinks to calm down. But it's a sad day when you need more poison to help your body deal with the absence of the same poison. If anything, perhaps my post can scare early-stage heavy drinkers into giving up the stuff. It will only get worse!

      no kidding

I 2nd the motion: it's sooo much harder to quit at a later stage of heavy drinking.

Fifth - are you taking any supplements or vitamins? Even in the throes they help. hang tight

I've been really lucky that I haven't had any really noticeable withdrawals besides not being able to sleep well yet, and a little fatigue. I'm almost hesitant to post anything b/c I'm so new and don't feel like I've earned my stripes yet, but the best thing I've heard so far is this:

        It's not deprivation, it's freedom.

I've already forgot who mentioned that, but it was somebody great on this board. Please step forward to claim your prize if it was you! and thanks to whomever did say that.

that phrase is really working for me. I will not be a slave to this anymore.
