26 hours and 8 minutes left.

That's all I've got left of my drinking "career".

I've just returned from a fantastic week up north here in Australia and I am certain that I have to give up alcohol for the rest of my life.

My decision is based on many many reasons.

Primarily, the impact my drinking has on my children. I am meant to be a role model. Hey, I'm not the worst father in the world, but my kids deserve the best. At present they are witnessing their father slowly kill himself, whilst piling on copious amounts of ugly body fat.

Whilst up in Queensland I saw so many fit and healthy fathers riding, running, walking and enjoying life with their kids. I so wanted to be them! I wasn't jealous. I hate jealousy. I was so happy for them. I just gave them a smile as if to say, you should be proud of the job you are doing.

I look forward to being to the best father my kids could ask for!

I'm pleased to say that a number of people have contacted me and wish to join me in the quest to become sober. I welcome on board Charles. Charles is the latest to make the life changing decision to give up alcohol. I commend you on your well considered decision.

    Hope you are all well.

    Wish us luck.

    Brett.

The golden opportunity you are seeking is in your self,it is not in your environment,it is not in luck or change or the help of others,it is in yourself alone :goodjob: everybody who is going for another goal, you have come this far.........next achievement please

                      Hi Pete.

Great to hear from you mate.

Have you gone af yet? Obviously you are still planning to.

I had my last drink at about 10:00pm here in Australia (30-6-09)

I was planning on tapering, but me being me went out with a bang. This just proves to me once again that I'm an all or nothing sorta person. I know the next few days will be tough but I have made my decision.

Despite the fear of going af, I feel sorta liberated.

Quite empowering. Not sure I'll be saying that tonight when the withdrawal kicks in.

                      Hope you are well mate.

Please feel free to pm me anytime.

                      Cheers

Good luck Brett. Im on board with you. Today is my 1st day al free and I'm looking forward to getting over the initial hump.
Our children are a wonderful motivation. My son is only 8 months and has not seen the negative effects of my drinking, thanks to a wonderful husband who picks up the slack when I go down. I want to show him an example of how to come from an alcoholic family line and rise above.
Good luck to you. I will be here with you. For myself, for my son, for my wonderful husband, and for the years I want to add to my life.
