    Some drawbacks of drinking

I know you have yours, so post them!

My newest is this: I make homemade bread every day. I like knowing what goes into the bread, and it's much better than anything you can buy anyway.

But just now, I was slicing a loaf and the knife went straight thru my thumb. I have a towel on it for now, and hubby is getting ready to go ride his bike, so I don't dare ask him to look at it. I'll wait a bit and see if it'll stop bleeding.

And THAT'S what happens when you're not in total control of the fine motor skills. I can cook like a fiend when I'm drinking but I don't think I should be playing with sharp knives.

lol, Kathy, I love this. I have scars on my thumb from similar incident while NOT drinking, but my daughter told me that she won't let me wax her eyebrows when I'm sober, because I stripped half of one off a few years ago by mistake after I had done a beautiful job a few months earlier while drinking..lol. So, I don't have to do that and she just has to pay money because I'm not going to drink just to wax her eyebrows!!

Yes, I've injured myself while not in total control. Or while completely out of control.

I've woken up (come to?) with bruises that I had no idea how I got. Presumably from stumbling into walls or falling down. I've also twisted my ankle so badly that it needed medical attention.

I've woken up with the oven still on from the night before.

Oh my god I'm lucky to still be alive.

Ya see! I just KNEW I wasn't alone!

And the bleeding stopped, so I can take 9-1-1 off of the speed dial now. Whew!!!

Okay, I know I'm answering my own post, but I have another one.

So I've got this bleeding thumb, can't find a band-aid and I end up taping a paper towel to sop up the blood.

Then my husband gets home from riding his bike and tells me about this awesome neighborhood he rode thru. He said "let's go look at it" so I say "sure!" and we hop in the truck and go. Then we see a house for sale and I was going to get out and get the brochure that's in the tube thingy over the realtor sign ... and I shut the truck door on my finger.

Sigh ... so now it's blue and swollen and won't bend and most likely broken. Will I ever learn?

Kathy, I hope you went to the emergency room!!!!!!!

Yeah, I've burnt a few dinners and my thumb. I don't even go near sharp instruments when I know I'm buzzzed. And never, ever drink and drive. I have an old friend who is now in recovery from drinking two quarts of gin a day. She drove all over. I can't believe she's still alive and never got a DUI. Another friend stuck her pointer finger in the Cuisinart while making pureed asparagus soup. The tip came off, she fished it out of the soup, but the doctors said they didn't need it, it was close enough to the tip to grow back. And it did. And she was sober!

              Drunk or Sober???

I'm a klutz whether drunk or sober, but thank Goodness I haven't had any experiences with a food processor either way!! I often have bruises on the tops of my legs from bumping into things--I still have them now, even though I haven't had a drink for a few weeks now!

Brigid asked me how I sewed while I was drinking this past winter. Well, since I do like sewing, I usually didn't drink all that fast, but if I started getting too drunk after about 3 or so, I would nap for an hour and then start back up again!!:H

Right now, I'm taking a break from ripping out seams that I sewed wrong yesterday while sober. It's a pain in the patoot, I'll tell you. But I guess it's better trying to rip them out sober!!

              Yikes!

I have decided to do some interesting things while drunk, though, like clean the whole house, or give my cat a bath. The poor thing was so shocked she didn't scratch at all, or maybe my breath just anesthetized her!!! She just yowled pitifully through the whole thing! I do some weird things when I'm drinking, sometimes!

              Hugs,:l

My finger bends this morning but is still swollen and blue. I think it'll be okay. The cut is nasty looking because it was jagged, but it should also heal.

I am a big-time bruiser too, and there are always bruises on my upper thighs because I run into everything as well; whether drinking or not.

                    Embarrassing drawbacks, too

Kathy, I?m glad your wounds are going to heal, but yikes! Careful with the sharps! I usually do more damage when sober (and shaking from the hangover), because I am on full alert when I?m drinking and wielding a knife.

But my big screwups involve things like leaving the oven on all night long. I also bruise easily, and have fallen down my stairs a few times. Recently at a garden party, I passed out in my chair and fell, hitting my head on the concrete patio floor. Afterward, I tried to insist on driving myself home and didn?t recognize the woman who drove my car: the president of the garden club. Unfortunately, my 16-year-old daughter was there to witness that one.

I?m sure we have all embarrassed ourselves pretty good at some time or other while drinking. Thank goodness for MWO and Topa! (My daughter thanks you, too!)

                      Some drawbacks of drinking

I have always cut my husband and boy's hair. And I usually opt to the haircuts in the evenings, usually after a few drinks. They watch T.V. while I cut their hair and sip wine. Or so in the past. But now that I dont do that anymore (drink that is while or before giving haircuts), I am getting COMPLAINTS about how my haircuts are not quite as good as before?? So funny to me! I am afraid to mention what my "secret" was! It's not like they didnt know I was having wine, but they dont get the connection. I think I am too picky when I am not drinking and I keep going back over it and cutting a little more here, a little more there... and "wait just a minute... let me thin this area out a bit..." and they always say its too short or something. But I always got raves before. Okay, I think i got this backwards and was supposed to talk about a pitfall of drinking not about how great of haircuts I gave when buzzed! However, I did cut my fingers quite a few times during those "great" haircuts....

                        Some drawbacks of drinking

There was a point in my drinking career where my husband and friends and family would actually TAKE BETS on how many times I would fall down in a night. This was when we were going to a lot of bars, weddings, dancing the night away. Bets though... jerks (see, it's their fault ).
Luckily, thankfully, I don't fall down anymore!

Oh, Pokey Kathy... I'm going to wrap you in Bubble Wrap and put you in a padded room for a little bit, K? And you have to start wearing a helmet.
                        :H
Take care, girl! Hope your wounds heal, and for the third time, I'm glad you're back and working on it.

I'm not glad you guys did all that stuff, but it makes me feel a bit less embarrassed to know I wasn't the only one!

Bubble wrap. I should have thought of that the last couple of years when I was getting drunk!

                            Some drawbacks of drinking

Okay, here is my last (hopefully) stupid stunt...

My twelve year old stepson had been back with his mother for 3 weeks so it had been nice and quiet around the house. He got back a week ago Sunday, so my husband put on these hunting CDs (he's getting ready for hunting season). It was Sunday evening, the first night my stepson had gotten back, had been practicing moderation, but that night I guess the drinking got a bit away from me. Se we start watching these hunting CDs (which I'm not real fond of anyways) and these two guys just get thru killing a big elk with a nice rack of antlers. Then they start high-fiving and I get upset and make some comment and run into the bedroom and start crying. Then I run back out into the living room, and in front of my stepson, tearfully yell at my husband that he might as well be watching x-rated movies, because this is just as bad. Then I ran back in the bedroom, and ran back out and yelled something else which I don't remember. But I was very embarassed the next day. And I also fall down alot, get bruises..pass out at night..and don't remember having s*x the night before with my hubby!! I have since been abs...for the past week now
...and I agree with the bubble wrap idea...

I got into a drunken fight in a bar in Germany...got pushed down a flight of stone stairs and landed on my chin. Lucky I still have a tounge. A few years ago I was drunk and bumped into a tall pedestal with a huge Chinese vase on it...it crashed on top of my head and broke. The gash was HUGE. The sad thing was that when it happened...I was just dazed and bleeding profusely. The next morning though....WOW!
