Skin issues AFTER quitting AL???
Anyone else out there had (or heard of having) skin issues AFTER quitting drinking? By skin issues I mean chronic itching, or eczema flare up, or general rashes or whatever. I have heard of skin issues happening during binges, but not so much during recovery although I could just be under-informed (wouldn't be the first time!) Could these kinds of things be related to detox? Anyone with any experiences to share would be much appreciated.Tags: None

Skin issues AFTER quitting AL???
Hi AstraiaJ,
Sorry to hear about your skin condition(s). It might be worth popping in to see a dermatologist to get their view on things!
I am in the same boat as KTAB in that my skin has improved 10-fold.
Hope you get your's sorted out nice and quickly!
Regards

Skin issues AFTER quitting AL???
I had a little more acne coming out in the first 10 days after I quit but I am sure that was my body releasing the toxins. At day 23 my skin is now clear. It could just be your body removing all the toxic waste out of your system - if it doesn't clear up I would go into your dematologist.
I hope that helps?Every day is a day to start over and remember that I am powerless over my addiction. I will no longer give the BEAST any power over me - he can go straight to hell.

Skin issues AFTER quitting AL???
Hi AstraiaJ,
The front inch or so of my scalp has developed a certain flakiness and there is a slight blemish appeared on my forehead. I've not had any skin issues before and these are very minor and only since quitting.

Skin issues AFTER quitting AL???
Thanks for your replies. I should have added earlier that I went to the dermo. and got cream for eczema. I asked her whether it was possible that the skin issues could be related to AL withdrawal, but she didn't think so. She could be right, but over the past year, as I have progressed to longer and longer stretches AF, it seems like the skin issues are related to the AF, not AL. It's almost as if it's part of the detox process, but what do I know? I found one general detox website that mentioned rashes as a possible symptom, but there is not very much reliable information out there on AL and skin.

Skin issues AFTER quitting AL???
Hi Astraia,
I do find that initially I have chronic itching and more acne, but after around week 3 AF it clears up. Are you using supps? It's possible you are having a reaction to something that you are using to help stay AF, also look at your diet - does that change when you're AF? I hope you get some relief.

Skin issues AFTER quitting AL???
I am 3 weeks into this, had a few slips but still doing overwhelmingly better, and my forehead is full of junk! Don't know if it's a reaction to a new cream, the supps, or toxins. I keep trying to dry it all out with astringent to get it into shape.
HOWEVER, other blotchiness is less, no more puffiness around eyes, but dark circles.
Hmm still better this way than the old way.Success is not final, failure is not fatal, it is the courage to continue that counts.
AF since May 6, 2010
