Rehab recommendations
Hi All, I've decided to enter a rehab facility and was hoping for some input. I live in North Carolina but am willing to travel (although closer is of course better). I'd like to hear any facility recommendations people have, or if you've heard of a place you wouldn't recommend!Tags: None

I have never been to a rehab so I can't help you there but I congratulate you on your decision.
I'm sure it has taken alot of courage and I pray that you will begin to heal while you're there.
I know very little about the "Sinclair method" that many are speaking of but I have used Naltrexone and while it's not advertised as an anti craving med, that's what it did for me...and quite well.
I saw a (you tube) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iAnpJ-6HOJo[/video]]YouTube - IntIce:Little Known Cure 1 of 4
this may explain alittle about their ideas and I know that there are 1 or 2 out patient clinic here in Florida http://www.sinclairmethod.com/sinclairmethod.htmusing that method. If you goggle it, you should be able to get more info. I can't recommend it but I have heard some say they had some luck with it.
Good luck with you decision !!!sigpicEyes on the PRIZE, a SOBER Future !!!

Good luck Hope. I too thought about rehab. But I've learned now the answer comes from inside anyway, and I don't need someone else to tell me that. There are many programs and also individual doctors that can help. I wish you luck.

Best wishes hope, but i'm with bossman,i don't need any professional telling me what to do.I know what to do and it's up to me and only me to do it.You still have to face the big bad world by yourself at some stage....I think i know as much if not more about addiction & withdrawal than a dr.(my rehab is here on this site)
Sorry, don't mean this to be discouraging. You do what's best for you...
You'll be in my thoughts & prayers...
hugs

Hope, if what you want is 12 step you'll find that 95% of rehabs are and I can probably give some good recommendations. If you don't want 12 step, that's another story.
I've been through 6 or 7 and I'm on day one (again). Rehabs are super expensive and I'll never go through another one. I don't mean to discourage you at all. For some they are wonderful, but for most the relapse rate is very high.
I agree with the above posters. It is an inside job and my shrink has inasmuch told me the same thing.
THIS is a great place to be and I'd suggest coming here a lot, trying one of the many medications available, seeing a therapist and a good pyschiatrist (if necessary, as is my case). I'd do these things first before a rehab and wish I'd found MWO before the two rehabs I went to this year. It could have saved me a LOT of money, time and heartache.^ My Baby Ruby ^

Just be aware that it is not a good thing to have alcoholism in your medical file.

Yes, Lucky. So true. That is why I did private pay on both of my rehabs this year. I don't need that on file. Of course, I am sure at least one or both of my Drs has this in my chart and I do fill prescriptions, so I am pretty well "found out." It's not a good thing to have this information out there.^ My Baby Ruby ^

Lucky, Lets be really careful about what we are communicating here. this refers to people with suspected alcohol abuse and not people with treated alcohol abuse (i believe at least). i think everyone will tell you that you're right that it is bad to have alcohol abuse on your record especially if it goes untreated. i dont think it is ever bad (at least medically or legally) to have it treated. i know that my attorney's were very interested in my treatment of the disease after my DUI last year and my dad who is an insurance agent never told me it was going to be a problem for my insurance record but i will check with him. from what i read in this report is that if they suspect aclohol abuse from things like DUI's and they are not treated then they can order tests to determine if there is alcohol abuse

The following addresses alcoholism that has been treated and is not suspected:
Your life insurer is counting your drinks - MSN Money
I prefer to keep my drinking habits out of my files but I understand others may not have the choice or will make a different decision.

I have always been self employed...well since I got out of college in the early 70s.......so I haven't ever thought to much about this issue...
Very wise to be aware...Me thinks !!!sigpicEyes on the PRIZE, a SOBER Future !!!

Lucky, here's my OPNION on life insurance:
This is one of the few things you have to pay for, but can't collect. After all, you're dead.
Life insurance is there to help your loved ones financially survive or recover from your unexpected demise. The best way to handle the situation (at least in the US) is to have a will, and to insure your estate doesn't drop to probate court. This can save 50% of your estate value. If you fail to do it, the value goes to the state and federal government, and not your family. Also you should check what happens to debts when you die; credit cards, loans, mortgages. It's pretty bizarre, but your family/spouse can save tens of thousands just by knowing how to handle it. You can do a will online (although I didn't, I did it through a lawyer for $500). I assume inheritance, credit debts on death, and asset inheritance tax issues are far different in UK and Aus.
If you stop drinking, do it for yourself. It's not about life. It's about quality of life. It's about whether you feel good, whether you feel better, tomorrow and the next day. Daily Alcohol dependence drives a huge depression mode. It affected me for years, maybe 20 years. I can't imagine the depth of what I lost during that time. That thought makes me very sad, to think of the time I wasted being blotto during the day. I'm older now, and I can't recover that past time, but I can recover now. I can recover my well being, and my happiness for the day and for future days.
Health insurance is needed. I'm not so worried about life insurance, now that I have documented a road for my family in case of unexpected death.

Rehab recommendations
Anyone in the US is aware of the proposed healthcare plan on a Nat'l level that would cover pre-existing conditions. I am just praying it goes through, in large part because I am pretty sure I am not insurable in the private sector due to my drinking. I am not insurable at any price, at least with regards to research I've done and this is my thinking. I could be wrong about this, but it scares me enough to try to keep this information out of databases. What I have going against me is a rehab covered under my insurance in 2003, a detox on 1/1/07, medical files (which would be reviewed) that indicate this problem, and of course the many prescriptions I've filled (dead give away).
I inquired about private health insurance once. I got an application. On it they went so far as to ask me if, in the past 15 years, anyone (medical professional) had advised me to cut down on my drinking. Hah! If I were to answer honestly I would probably get disqualified. If I were to lie and this was discovered, I could be looking at future claims (for other medical reasons) being denied. I don't trust these insurance companies one iota and think they are always looking for ways to not pay claims or not insure someone who appears to have issues that might cost them a lot of money.
Anyway, this is just my humble opinion. I just urge caution when divulging certain information. I have had to (disclose my drinking history) in order to make sure I get the right care, but still, I am not happy about this.^ My Baby Ruby ^
