We are thinking about a new dog. We put the old one down at the end of April. We loved her to pieces, but we will not get another Jack Russell Terrier - we want a normal dog. We saw a Havanese with someone in a park, and the dog breed info:

sounds perfect, almost too good to be true. Has anyone owned one of these?

Hey Sunbeam - my Mum has a Lhasa Apso (very bad spelling I think?), which is similar to a Havanese? she's a lovely dog but her coat takes a huge amount of maintenance - she usually has her clipped. We have a JRussel an Italian Greyhound and a very broad Chi. I think you've already made up your mind about the Havanese - but think about an Italian Greyhound, they're fab!

Tell me more about the Italian Greyhound. I have heard mixed things about their need for exercise. We will be faithful about daily walks on a leash, but we do not have a place where the dog can go run loose on a regular basis. Our minds really are not made up. If anyone wants to pitch another dog, I would love to hear your thoughts.

I have a friend with two Havanese and I LOVE those dogs. They look like tiny Old English Sheepdogs. They are very floppy and loveable, not agressive at all, just little love muffins!

Our Russell quickly burrowed her way into our hearts, but she was never an easy dog. She never sat still, always glued to our sides. We found out in March that she had 90% kidney failure, brain tumor, and an abnormal heart condition. Even so, the day before she died in late April, she stood up on the back of the sofa for nearly two hours, waiting for my husband to get home. Tenacious, loyal, sweet, smart, agile, high-energy: there are many words I could add. She changed our lives in a good way. But we want a dog that is just a little less intense.

How about a miniture Doberman? They are intelligent, loyal to death, short haired. I agree with Sun about the Jack Russel - if they were large dogs there would not be any other dogs left.Lol.

Dogs are great aren't they? I can't imagine life without one. We used to own boxer dogs. They were so much fun. We were just worried that they would be too big and boisterous with the kids. We now have a cheeky fluffball. He is a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. He is mad as a cut snake but we love him.

Hey Sunbeam,

We live in apartment but do have a Terrace. The dogs get walked most days and sometimes we sneak them off the leash (illegal) and the IG will have a tear around, he does chase wildlife though, (which means squirrels and big monitor lizards here). He doesn't yap, and apart from his regular nail clipping needs very little maintenance. Search Italian Greyhound on Utube, very cute. Whatever you choose its just great to have a dog.

Hi SoSad. Even though we are alcoholics we are also friends, sons, daughters, mothers, fathers, grandparents, grandchildren, aunties, uncles, cousins. We have hobbies, interests, opinions, talents, gifts, habits, routines. We are employees, employers, volunteers and unemployed. We are all human and everything that goes along with that.
