    Home Detox?

I wish to express you are deeply in my thoughts and I understand home detox due to my own experienceS.
It passes and I have done this with no meds, meds, tapering and having help chemically is best as is someone to monitor just for the support and assurance.

You are so brave and dear Betty, I have not rode many a wave not too far to abstinence,
but, I am in sincere awarness to your situation as best due to the nature of my struggle since I joined.

I consider you as special as always~

          Home Detox?

hi betty, the drugs are used as many said to help withdrawal, the thing they didnt tell you is ask questions,in my case they used diazepam [valium] coming down from heavy drinking can bring on a heart attack or stroke, blood pressure escalates, thats why they use the drugs, also they neglected to tell you ,coming off the benzodiazepine the withdrawal is twice as bad,im not trying to scare you,ask the doc or nurse,be informed,do yourself a favor, dont drink Sunday,i do wish you well, gyco

            Home Detox?

            Hi Betty,

Congratulations on getting the home detox, i did one at the end of last year. Theres nothing to worry about. In England i think they tend to use Librium which is a form of valium.
Day 1 100g tapered down to 10g by day 7 also lots of vit b and Thiamine. Also dont panic about the illuminouse green wee:H I think its just the vits doing there job ( we dont eat to well while we're drinking)
You do feel a bit spaced out the first couple of days but its not unpleasent and it really takes the edge off the cravings. Everyone detox's differently and i hope yours goes as smoothly as possible.
Im really excited for you Betty, enjoy Sunday and try not to think of letting go of the drink as a bad thing. Life has so much more to offer on the other side:l
I don't care who you are...Your not walking on water while i'm fishing..
One drink is too many... A thousand is never enough...Sober since July 2nd 2009

              Home Detox?

Hi Betty! Long time no "see"!

After three 5-day detoxes in a detoxing facility, I realized that they did nothing more than could be easily done at home. They checked my blood pressure and gave me a vitamin B shot the first day. They also gave me tegretol, an anti-seizure medicine for epileptics. I was not allowed to have a telephone or computer. I was not allowed visitors. There were no activities and no counseling. The only reason I could see for them to keep me there and isolated from the rest of the world was to make sure I didn't have access to alcohol.

Almost everybody chain smoked and drank litres of coffee -- which is the stupidest thing you can put into your body while detoxing.

After those horrible, lonely, experiences, I got smart, and have detoxed at home dozens of times since.

Now this is by no means medical advice, it is just an account of MY experience....

I found out from internet research that lorazepam (Ativan), which is often used for detoxing, is most often prescribed for anxiety and insomnia. So I went to a shrink and said I had terrible anxiety (which is true) and got a script.

Basically, the benzos, (which include lorazepam) make you into a zombie. This is mainly to get you through withdrawal -- I hate the feeling of being in a haze, knocked out, but I guess it is better than suffering withdrawal symptoms. I think it only helps because you are not awake enough to feel the full effect of the withdrawal. I always take the lorazepam, though, because it is also an anti-seizure medicine, and seizures are a real risk for serious drinkers when they quit cold-turkey.

Other than that, you need massive amounts of vitamins, especially Bs and C, and magnesium.

It sounds like you are in good hands with the home detox, but I'm not sure they will be very savvy on the supps. I urge you to follow the "Seven Weeks to Sobriety" protocol, which is used in-house and detoxing patients, even serious cases, rarely need any medication because of the supps.

I know this is an earful, but as the detox queen around here, I thought I'd offer this information that I've gathered through excruciating experience -- I hope I can help some people to avoid so much pain and anguish.
Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life... And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.
