No kidding, friends: I also have a strange ?edible plant?, in the general category of squash. I didn't plant it. The fruit today has some stripes..stay tuned for the alien veggies....!

I am making some spray for my herbs that are buggy. At the moment I have sitting (for an hour) in a quart of water, one small onion and one blub garlic (food processored them) and a T of ground dried cayenne pepper. Later I'll add 2 T liquid soap (not dish detergent) to it and pour into a spray bottle when the foam subsides. I halfway expect Determinator to show up before I add the soap. :H

The Gardening Thread v.2 - Fall Edition!

We've been busy cleaning up our gardens and starting to plant some fall lettuce and greens.
We have increased our raised beds from four to seven this year.
We fill them with composted cotton gin trash and horse and chicken poo..
If you live near a cotton processing place, I highly recomend getting a few bales and composting it.
                The worms love it!
The raised beds are so much easier to work with and control with shade cloth and frost cover. They are also set up with watering in place. That really saves time and $...
Once again we are saying that we need to cut back on gardening....no really this time!

                Happy fall ya'll....

Geez, Greenie!! You gave me a heartattack!!!!!!! I first read this as 'sitting IN'!! LMAO
I've been reading a lot on natural herbicide sites, but don't have anything to add yet, as its not tested. Just working on my fall clearing, here, and propping up or babying my winter blooming house plants.

Tomatoes, zucchini, malabar spinach, swiss chard, green beans: I continue to harvest all of this. The new front flower bed is finally in, I will add a little to it next year, but it looks nice. A group of 3 Hydrangea Paniculata forms the focal point.

I had not thought of that! Peppermint is an insect repellant so the pep. castille makes sense.

I have some day lilly seeds. Do I save them for next spring and then plant them? Any particular way to store them over the winter?

I went to Lowe's today and naturally went to their clearance racks. Bought 6 gallon baskets of mums and a flat of marigolds for $2.00 each. I don't like to buy anything that doesn't come back the next year. I can't even reach around the mum baskets!

                                Greenie,
So sorry I missed your post a few days ago. I'm in western New Your State, zone 5b. The summer is short enough that I don't plant more for fall, with all this coming in. My swiss chard is HUGE, I really gotta take the time to freeze more for those winter stews. But it will take some frost so I'm not in too much of a hurry.
