    Doctors Appointment.....scared

Well tomorrow is the day. I'm going to the doctors.....and I am scared. I mean this has kind of been my secret. Probably not as much of a secret as I think, but I'm not sure what to say. I guess something like "Hi doc, I'm an alcoholic, can ya tell me how much damage I've done?" No, but seriously....I don't know what I'm going to say or how to ask for Baclofen. And what scares me more is because of my recent weird symptoms I'm afraid of what damage I have done. What if it's serious? I need to go, I know I do, but I am so afraid.
Anyone been to the doc lately and how did it go??
:flower: I'm not as good as I'm gonna get, but I'm better than I used to be.

AK, good for you on going to the doc! It's a very hard, yet brave thing to do. The first doc I saw last spring was a cold bastard. I switched docs. By that time, I was on this site and getting armed with info. Before appointment, made notes of what I was drinking per day, made a list of health concern questions, and a list of supps I wanted to start. I was asking for Campral so took some info on that as well. Also spoke to him about this site. I got the script for Campral and some blood work done. I went back a week later. Blood work was good and doc and I chatted abit about this site, as he had checked it out. The Campral was really helping alot but had to stop it due to loss of appetite - I am already underweight (please don't hate me!). Now, I am considering Baclofen also. Going to doc next month for routine blood work (I am diabetic) and will bring info then to discuss. I hope this helps you :wings: BTW, this was a GP I went to. He did not send me to shrink because he could see I was serious and doing my research. I pray for the same for you!

AK, sweet heart, take a deep breath. Think of them sitting there naked, or anything that makes them more accessible and human to you! LOL You doctor is WORKING for you. If they don't listen, communicate, help you, you have to look for one who will. Think of this as someone you are paying for any other type of service. You need to get what you ask for. Now, be calm, and honest, and you may be tremendously surprised at the respone. Many docs are so used to seeing the results of long term abuse, denial, etc., they may be thrilled for the opportunity to work with you. But you must be proactive. I was shocked beyond words. My truculant doc actually called me at home, talked half an hour, and gives me an update, increase, etc. whenever I want! This is their calling, healing! Not a bandaid on a leaking sore. Let us know what happens. Remember, if it DOESN'T go well, its not YOUR fault, its the doc. But I'm believing you will get great results~~!!

AK my experience of doctors ( and I have worked with many) is that they are there to help, and they try to do the best they can. Dont be scared your story is just another story in a days work, be honest and tell him your worries and problems. He, she will be delighted that you are looking for help and support because so many peeps are in denial around there problem it can be difficult for them to say what they need to say. Good Luck.

And AK, we who've seen you here know you have someone so special to make you want to make this work, to be a better person. It's one of the things I love about you. You have a great purpose. Would you be afraid if you were fighting for your son? Well you are, in a way. Think of this as something he needs too.

I think most doctors want to help. If for some reason yours is an ass...get another one. You'd be surprised how many docs are alcoholics themselves!!!! They are doctors...not God. They are humans... AND he/she is providing a service to you. You are paying him/her to work for you basically...so, if you dont like them...walk out and find one you do. You will be just fine. Take a deep breath and expect respect. HUGS!

                      Really light headed
                      Anxiety
                      No appetite
                      Mild nausea
                      Mild tighness in my chest

I thought it was withdraw symptoms but then I continued to drink. Then I thought it was just anxiety and stress from my son being gone and work being so busy. Now I don't know what the hell to think. Of course I'm thinking the worst. I hope it's nothing but the wake up call that I need.

AK, speaking from my own experience, those sound like minor panic attacks. Many things will cause/trigger them. My experience has been that going AF frees me from them. Some do not experience the same, but that is how it is for me and has been for 15 years or so.

AK, worry and regret are complete wastes of energy. They accomplish NOTHING. Find something to do with that time, if you can.
