Hi Gyco, thanks for your words of encouragement yesterday, last night was totally fine. Do you have a link for the book or will I just google it? That is great about your leg healing up nicely.
Re the ladies, that was the one thing that really suprised me about MWO but when I thought about it, it makes perfect sense. It must be so much harder for them to attend a public meeting, because as much as we all like to think there is total equality it is probably still more of of stigma for the ladies, in the eye of joe public, to admit to this illness at an open meeting.

I wondered about that too KT. When I went for my meeting at the addiction centre on Wednesday I was expecting the split of men to women clients to be about 75% male. But no, apparently its 60% male and 40% women. I find that very encouraging. They are even thinking of having women only days there to help them.

I would think the number of women who are alcoholics would be quite surprising. I would imagine the female to male ratio would be a lot higher if you really dug into it

I think you are right Zeppie, its just the stigma is much worse for women. They seem to be more afraid of losing their children, jobs etc if they come clean with their addiction.

Not through AA but in everyday life I know 3 guys who are in long term recovery from AL but no ladies, or do I?
I probably do but it is not on the menu for discussion. I definately know of at least a dozen people who I would consider to drink alcoholicly (former drinking buddies many of them)
It is good that more ladies are seeking help so. I wonder what the split is here, prob 80% of the fairer sex I would estimate.

Just look at the number of women on this site. I wonder if the whole AA thing doesn't appeal to alcoholic women.

I think and its only from my perspective, I am reluctant to go to AA as I do not wish to air my dirty linen in public., here is good because its as anonymous as we want it to be.
I think many perceive AA as being frequented by hard core male alcoholics therefore not necessarily user friendly for women.

I think the spiit is about 80/20 too KT

I think you are right starts- I certainly don't want to go to a meeting and speak of all my failings.
