Looking for some feed back regarding my niece,just discovered in the last couple of months that my brother is having big problems with his daughter,3 weeks ago she threatened to commit sucide,banging her head of the ground,screaming hysterically,saying her life is wortless and wished she was dead,This weekend my brother & his wife went away for the weekend, my neice went out with friends for a drink got very drunk,ended up banging on my sisters door at 3am in the morning after having a big physicall fight with her friends,my sister didnt know what to do and found it extremly frightning,my neice told her she wanted to die and again her life is worthless,it took my sister 3/4 hours to calm her down,and in them hours you would think she was possesed,i have also learned that this is an ongoing situation espeicially when she drinks,another time she got the keys of her fathers car and crashed it in a drunken rage.she is 26 years old and still living at home, no boyfriend,as they dont stay around to long, thanks

It's hard Mario.
I'm no expert but my daughter went through a similar thing a few years ago. A couple of ODs and some time in a secure psychiatric ward. I was at my wits end, but there's nothing I could do except the obvious; be there for her and helping with love and advice and listening to what she had to say. I wanted to get inside her head and fix whatever it was that was hurting, but I couldn't. She still has issues that worry me greatly but no amount of talking can sort it out and make her happy. I just hope that she can come to terms with what is basically emotional issues that we all have to deal with, and find her place in the scheme of things.

God all mighty, thats very worring but she is definatly screaming for help and it sounds like they need serious professional advice quickly. This needs to be tackled head on now, and my only advice would be get your brother to contact a good psychologist as soon as , maybes through the health board , they would know all the good local ones . Its possible she has bi polar or something and needs some meds but whatever it is , I hope its sorted soon before she succeeds in destroying herself, im so sorry Mario, what a worry.

Hi Mario sorry your family are going through this. I would agree your neice needs some professional help. It sounds like she is very angry and hurt over something, the drinking only makes theses feelings magnified, as I am sure we all know only too well. Any threat to commit suicide should be taken extremely seriously. It has touch my family at a very young age, I am sorry if my post distressses anyone, that is the last thing I would wish to do but I strongly advise seeking assistance asap.

Hi Mario, it really sounds like she needs urgent professional help.
Will she be willing to accept that? It sounds to me like it is something that needs to be done sooner rather than later. Like KT says, any suicide threat needs to be taken very seriously...
