And did I mention I got a rocking tan? I think staying busy and physically active is my way out. Sitting around at home bored and depressed can truly be a recipe for alcohol abuse. Stay active peeps.... whatever that is for you!

10 days in the Bahamas
It was so much easier than I anticipated! I took wind sailing lessons, kayaked, snorkeled, cooking lessons... and by the time I got to the free drinks in the evening, I was not only exhausted by 7 p.m, but starving! I did drink on occasion, but I rarely missed it staying so active. Alcohol quickly fell to the bottom of my list in light of all the other stuff I was able to do. I think I was in bed by 9 pm most nights! Unheard of!

Totally agree. Gotta stay busy. I found it works even doing things you aren't crazy about. Like housework, or car maintenance, or for me shopping, whether it is groceries or clothes. working out is great, as it occupies your time as well as gets the endorphins firing. Of course, if you can do all the fun things Prest got to do, well that is even better. I'm jealous now. :upset:where does this go?

I'm very happy for you Prest. Sounds like your holiday could've gone either way, but you turned it into a positive, Bravo!

Hi Pressed,
I totally agree! I live for summer, am busier than I have time to describe, and loving every minute. My life is better without alcohol, since 9/1/12. My sobriety tool is the list at permalink 236 on the toolbox thread under monthly abstinance.

Also doing it for me. I got to stay sober for me.
Just consecrate on today and do what you can to remain sober for today and worry about staying sober tomorrow, tomorrow.

Congrats Pres!
Vacations are a big point of leading an AF life that I'm not sure how I will be able to deal with. I have never had a vacation as an adult that didn't revovle around drinking! Glad to here someone do it and so positively. Good point to stay active.

Sounds like a great time. I am heading to Key West on Sat for a week and was wondering how one goes to Key West and not have a drink. I plan on doing alot of the same things you did so I guess I will be so tired at night drinks will not be important. Thanks for the reminder of how much fun vacation can be sober.

The key for me was definitely staying active. We had an "all inclusive" vacation which meant.... all food, all alcohol was included. And we are not just talking beer and wine; it's everything. So I think I went into this with a plan, which REALLY helped. My plan was not to linger around the pool and beach too long, but to take advantage of all the other things that were included as well, such as activities! So I stayed away from the home base, and out in the water kayaking, etc. The wonderful benefit was that it left me exhausted at night, and ready for more snorkeling adventures. I think I even found Nemo! I caught a lobster on opening day of the season, so it was so worth the fun!
I think if I would have had the mindset of getting my money's worth of free drinks, I would have sat around by the pool or beach and just gotten drunk. I think the key is to have really exciting stuff to "do" that you will miss out on if you opt to drink instead. If you do not live the life you believe, you will believe the life you live.
