    I'm back from Rehab!

Hi All! Thank you for the well wishes. I got discharged from rehab after spending 15 days there. My insurance company cut me off after 15 days. I am delighted! It was a great experience yet it felt like being in prison. 16 hours a day was spent in group therapy, AA and NA meetings and lectures. I met a lot of great women ranging from 18 yrs. old to 60 yrs. old. I did not have to go through the detox period which is usually 5 days. I was amongst a mix of alkies and druggies. I'm an alkie. Most of the young women were druggies. There was no t.v., internet and newspaper to read. There was no caffenated beverages such as soda and coffee. I walked around like a zombie. Overall, it was a great and much needed experience. My room consisted of 5 women and 1 bath. Lights were supposed to have been out by 11 pm, but some women would stay up to 1:30 am chatting. We were woken up everyday by 6:30 am and locked out of our room till 8:45 pm! I gained 6 lbs. The food was good. I'm grateful and am very happy to be home. If you have any questions regarding rehab, don't hesitate to ask.

    Luv,
    Reenie

      I'm back from Rehab!

      Hi Reenie,
I went through rehab 15 years ago, but it was a slightly different experience. Bottom line it was less rigorous than what you went through, and I only spent five days there. I had a room with one other bed, but had no roommate. The staff were very pleasant, and we did have sessions and such. After five days I decided to leave on my own, with dr's permission of course (but there's really no way they can hold you there unless you are a danger to yourself). All in all, it was a good experience and I met many people there and we talked, laughed, and shared our alkie/drug experiences. The sad thing is that during the five days that I was there, people that I had met only a few days earlier that had been released returned because as soon as they got out they overdosed. Most of these were people on serious narcotics and cocaine. I didn't see an alkie return. Some of these returning narco addicts had actually died on the operating table and were revived. Very sad to see that.

Reenie, I hope that you stay sober and are happy for the rest of your life. You know that the future lies before you and you can make the very best of it! Cheers to you!

          Welcome back Ronnie!
I quit drinking on March 8, 2020. Taking it One Day At A Time and no more taking my quit for granted.

Also doing it for me. I got to stay sober for me.

Just consecrate on today and do what you can to remain sober for today and worry about staying sober tomorrow, tomorrow.

Not sure if I could last two weeks without internet. AL, no problem, but leave my news and internet alone.

You are doing great, keep it up!
            I feel the same way.

                  I'm back from Rehab!

                  Hi Reenie

I am glad to hear rehab was a great experience for you and I wish you the best. I spent 10 days in a rehab facility where I was suppose to be there for 30 days. I left on my own. I had a similar experience in that the majority of the day was spent in classes and AA/ NA meetings. I had to go through a 3 day detox period and after that we could leave the facility during certain hours as long as there was another "inmate" with you. I was one of the few that had a vehicle there so I was a popular person when someone wanted to go to the gym or Walmart. Most of the young girls were junkies and most of the guys were alkies. I was surprised by the number of doctors that were there because they were hooked pain killers, which makes since I guess because they can write their own scripts. It's amazing some of the stories you hear and people you meet. I met a doctor who was taking a 100 ambiens a day (they said he didn't sleep for 3 weeks when he got to rehab), an OB who lost her license and children, and my roommate was an elected government official. I think I left early because he snorred so loud. I could on and on with the stories, Substance abuse effects all walks of life.

I think rehab is a great thing and highly recommend it for any one who needs the help. I will probably be back there some day. This may sound like an alcoholoic always lying or making excuses, but I believe I didn't leave because I wanted to drink or craved alcohol. I just missed my family and friends, my own home and bed, not having to fight over the remote for the one TV, playing golf. I can be very sociable for a while, but at some point I need my privacy. I guess my point is those thinking about going into rehab be prepared to share your lives with 10 to 20 other people you don't initially know. You will be sharing sleeping quarters, eating every meal together, spending all day in classes, socializing in the evenings, etc. I wasn't prepared for that. Everybody was awesome that I met and this is just probably just my issue. Just some friendly advice.

Reenie, thank you for sharing your experience. I have always wondered about rehab. I hope you carry this positive vibe forward. I love to read success stories I find them very motivational. Five women and one bathroom, that would scare me sober right there!

                            I'm back from Rehab!

Hi Marshy: I feel confident. It felt weird when I first walked into my home. I chilled out, opened mail and listened to my voice messages on my cell phone. I started doing my laundry and then went to the nail salon for a mani and pedi. I put the massage chair on high and relaxed. I felt so good afterward. I then went food shopping. It was great driving my car, seeing society and listening to music at full blast. I fell right into sync today. I went to my office and then went to my therapist appointment. I'm adjusted and rehab feels like a dream, but I don't want to forget it. I'm off AA meetings Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday.

Thanks all for your support. Golf Pro... great post. I see you can relate!

That's great, Reenie! And AA sounds like a really good idea for ongoing support.
