I'm glad you were able to rescue your horse before it was too late. Laziness I can sort of understand, but not cruelty to animals. Never that!!!!
I don't think anyone who would let the place go like that could be called a "friend" or even a proper "tenant" for that matter, more like "squatter".
I hope your Mum starts to perk up soon.

Thank you everyone... yeah, it's amazing how many similar stories I've heard in the past week... friends and neighbours who at one time or another rented out and quickly decided to never do that again. It's just sad. I rented my first home for 2 years before I bought it... it didn't look any different when I was a tenant than it did when I owned it. But, not all people are alike, I guess.

Anyways, time to fix what I can and get on with it, now.

Oh.. and mom was moved out of ICU yesterday. Will still have to stay in the hospital for a while, but is doing a bit better

Thanks Mario... yep, she is coming around now... will still need to stay in the hospital for some time, though Some vacation, huh? My parents live in Germany but have a little cottage by a lake in Nova Scotia... they had only arrived on August 12th... by August 16th, she was in ICU.

You have a BEAUTIFUL home. It's so sad that you gave your heart to try and help someone, only for them to take advantage of you. You're a kind hearted person. Unfortunately, the most kind hearted are often taken advantage of. I do hope your Mother is okay, and am glad your son is safe with you. I know that if an Angel like you were to be so kind and give me such a beautiful place to stay for so cheap, I would relish that. Once again, I do hope your mother is okay.

I don't think you are whining at all. Your house was beautiful and obviously your pride and joy. To have a so called friend treat it, your horse and your son in such a disrespectful and appalling way must hurt immensely.

I wish you a happy future on the island with Mr Wonderful! Also wishing your mother a speedy recovery. I have heard of other people catching pneumonia after a long haul flight, don't think the quality of the air on the planes is so good.
