Madly backing up files here in case we go down again. Unreal, truly. Most of you know my feelings on the matter. Today just killed us, and I felt terrible for every one of you who spent at least part of it hitting "refresh". My sincere apologies.

We're moving the entire site, message board, chat, etc. to a new host, PowerVPS, in the next couple of days and have talked with their tech support folks in detail about how this will work. Ideally, there should be very limited interruption in service when we move everything over. (The message board may be "read only, no posting" for a few hours, depending on how long it takes for various providers to update their files. I hadn't planned on the move until I return from travels next week, but we simply can't survive another one of these. I've also come to realize we need to figure out a way to come up with some in-house tech support because when issues like this come up, we need help NOW.

In fact, I'm starting to think pretty seriously about an earlier suggestion about including a "donation" tab here on the board, as one of our members generously suggested last week. We're committed to providing the message board free of charge to everyone (and present it ad-free) but we obviously need to bump up the level of service if we wish to maintain a more stable environment. Doesn't help when we lose a full day of sales, either. Today has been extremely frustrating for everyone except my two dogs who couldn't understand why mama continued to take them out on short power walks.

OK, you can have it... I understand it is warranted today. I shall add my own mini grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr as well. I wanted to check in too! I got called off work today and the kids were in school so I had all kinds of time to chat! UMMM, good thing the site was down almost! I got lots of laundry and gardening done instead of giving myself Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.

I'm sorry for any new people who were looking or those trying to find the site for the first time! And yes, sorry about the sales, RJ!!! I was so aggravated because I actually HAD some time this morning!!! Oh well, like Becca and a few others, I got some other stuff done, so that was good.....

RJ, I think it would be interesting to explore being able to have a "monthly donation" that could be put on your credit card regularly, too. That way, those of us that wished to could budget an amount that would automatically be billed to our credit card each month as well. Just a thought.

Oh, and whatever you need to do, and wherever you need to take this board--no matter what, I'm not going anywhere!

Appreciate it. And yes, that's exactly what drives me crazy--new folks looking for help can't access the site; others assume that *they're* the ones doing something wrong. And our regulars here are simply unable to connect with one another to check in. So very frustrating...and to date completely lost on those who controlled the box.

However, on the bright side, I'm just back from an errand and had a fabulous note from our new provider at PowerVPS stating they'd already moved everything over to the new site (we'll mirror it and try to make it as seamless as possible. Still some back end work to do here, but we're getting there).

I'll keep you posted and again, thanks, everyone.

p.s.: The way this works, as I understand:

There will be no interruption of service...you should be able to access the site during this entire transition (and no need for re-registering as before.) However, until "DNS Propagates"--which means we have to point everyone to our new official Internet address--you may be logging on to the existing message board, not the the identical new one. You won't be able to tell the difference, so I may turn off posting privs on this site for a couple hours with an explanation until the propagation is complete.

Clear as mud? :-)

I think that it is a perfectly reasonable request for people to make donations, although I would rather call it a subscription. After all it is more of a group-help club, and and if you join a club, you pay a subscription. And bearing in mind, the help, support and knowledge we gain here - well that is priceless.
Also just think how much money we save on the alcohol we are not drinking.
Perhaps, new members could have a couple of weeks free trial to see if it's the right thing for them.
Hang on - just thought of scammers though - re-registering under new names - perhaps have an IP address tracer thingy - as you can tell I know exactly what I'm talking about - I have a Phd in IT you know !!!!
But - I am definitely willing to pay subs, because it has changed my life.
It has become my new addiction !!!!

I think you should put another one of those poll things on again - Because I know you haven't got much to do at the moment !!! hee hee
