    my dream

DO any of you dream of AL?
some of you know today is day 26 AF for me . (the longest I have ever gone is 30 days to win $100.00 bet then i started to drink again )
Well Labor day weekend my son is getting married and i am afraid/nervous about getting through the entire weekend without AL ..
last night i dreamed i was there and there was a glass of red wine by me for me. In the dream i could see it and smell it and i did want to drink it but i was AFRAID to ..the fear was there and i grabbed a glass of some kind of pop and used that to toast the bride and groom and most people did not notice and i felt such relief when that toast was over.
so i think my dreams are sending me clear messages huh?

It's a great dream. You should feel very proud! The observer in your dream is your ego and you have your ego on your side! Woo, hoo! Also, (analysing dreams is a hobby of mine) if it were my dream, I would interpret the wedding as more symbolic of the healing that is occuring within you as a result of your efforts to make better choices rather than assume that the wedding literly represents your sons wedding, as tempting as it is..dream symbols usually are all about you and aspects of yourself. TMI? :-) I get a little carried away...at any rate, I sat it's all good!

Queen, congrats on 26 days AF! Try not to fear the wedding. Just go into it with a GOOD plan for how you will stay AF through the event. How you will handle urges, what you will drink during the toast, etc. etc. YOU CAN DO IT!!

Namaste, interesting hobby you have there! I have not had a lot of dreams about AL but when I quit smoking I had TONS of dreams about that. The funniest one I will never forget - it went like this:

I was sitting at my kitchen counter as it is today. I was opening a box of some kind of breakfast cereal and was very excited to find the "prize." (Um...I don't eat cereal at all these days as I am a low carber and it has been many many years since I have eaten any type of cereal that comes with a kidz prize in it LOL!) When I found the "prize" it was a pack of my BACKUP brand of cigarettes (I smoked Virginia Slims but in a pinch would buy Marlboro Light 100's - typically out of a cigarette machine in a bar with limited selection) AND not one, but TWO packs of matches. (not a lighter and I always used lighters)

So what do you make of that one? :H I always hated the dreams where I would realize I was already smoking and had no idea how I even lit up. Those were scary to me. This one just made me laugh, even at the time.

Anyway..sorry for the threadjack! Queen of denial (love that screen name) congrats again! :yougo::yougo::yougo: I know you will be very proud of yourself when you make it AF through your son's wedding.

        my dream

        Hi Queen,

Yes, dreaming about AL happens to a lot of us in recovery. It's quite natural, just your mind adjusting to life without alcohol. I've found that my dreams have helped me understand some of my subconscious attitudes to drinking.

        Good luck!

I think that's a great dream. We're all supposed to live out our dreams, right?

I've learned to bring some sparkling cranberry or something like that. It tastes better than pop.

                my dream

                Queen,
I did have a few drinking dreams in the beginning too.
But now, like DG I'm having seriously vivid smoking dreams and I quit more than 3 months ago...........these continue to plague me.
Hopefully these dreams are all just about changing our mental states.
Be proud of yourself, you're doing great

I still can't decide whether this is a good thing or a bad thing..but I dream in epics!!! Have done, even before I drank alcohol and still do,even now I am AF! Basically I have a dream, can wake up, go back to sleep and pick it up where I left off..or even pick up the same dream from the night before!! Not sure what that means? Warpo brain maybe! Not good when its a nightmare...but I LOVE the flying dreams!
Can't say I've had many dreams related to AL though!

Chicken, if "warpo brain" is what it means, then I'm right there with you. Last night, I dreamed that I was a roving, mutating virus making my way through a hospital ward -- and no one liked me. :upset:

Rats. I'm on day 11 AF (anxiety and WD's are gone! Whoo hoo!) and last night I dreamed I slipped some Absolut vodka in with this non-AL drink we were all drinking at some gathering. The lizard brain strikes again.

                        my dream

When I was pregnant and totally AF, I had several 'drinking' dreams. I used to wake up so depressed, thinking I had been drinking, then was so happy when I realised just a dream.

Lilbit...you are as warpo as me.....!What a great dream though!
The ones I hate are the sad ones where you wake up crying, and feel exhausted and drained before you even get out of bed!
But on a good note, when it's a great dream....and it continues...then that is pretty good!

                            my dream

It's funny you should bring this up, as I had a similar dream experience. I had just been through my first 7 days AF and was feeling proud of myself, as well as physically better. In a rather lucid dream, I consumed several glasses of vodka on ice. Very bizarre dream, and very realistic. I recall feeling as disappointed in my dream state as I would have in real life. In fact, upon waking up recalling this dream reminded me how awful I feel when I give in to my drinking urges after a decent run of abstinence, so despite the dream's spooky lucidity, it helped my resolve to stay off the booze the next few days.

Chicken! So jealous you've had flying dreams!! I have heard of these and would LOVE to experience one. I have recurring dreams of being in a plane that crashes (so much that I am the one on the plane telling everyone it will be okay...been through it before). I've heard Oprah dreams of flying as well, so your in good company! And, I too can pick up on a dream where I left off. Even back up and change direction of dream.

Sorry to get off track. I'm just fascinated w/ dreams....I have a feeling you're going to be just fine at the wedding!
