    THE NEXT DAY THREAD, September

    Morning all
"The sound of rain on tin roofs" I know it well, and I must say I hate it, Am I the only one here that hates rain!!!
Well I woke up this morning and as I was so busy yesterday sorting office bits out and what not I did'nt get time to clear up the house.....well I think a bomb must of gone off when I was'nt looking, so thats my job for the day.
I must go and see James but we dont seem to like each other very much......lol, he is so pushy with me and he makes my body ache all over (some would think that is a good thing!!)
I think I will stick with walking the dog......

Ronnie,You must be the only person in Australia who hates rain. Wait till the average annual rainfall in WA drops another 2 inches a year. I loved it in our old house listening to the rain on the roof. Ther was something comforting about being warm and dry inside whilst listening to the tattoo being beaten on the roof.
Angel, I remember that thread. Ditto thoughts.

Rain.... love the rain and rolling thunder as long as I'm in the house with everything I need and do not have to leave.

We had 30mm of rain last Thurs/Friday which has no doubt saved our crops! Yay for rain!
Although this shitty wind i could do without - blowing straight off Antarctica & through my bones!
Bring on the Spring time though fellow Aussies - i get SAD (seasonal affected disorder) big time towards the end of August.
Wildflowers out down here too - spectacular bursts of colour. Canola flowering - vivid yellow patches on the hillsides.Bees a-humming & drowning in the dogs' water bowl.
          But this bloody wind....

Mooorning. Well. I had a glass of wine last night. Didn't enjoy it, didn't want more. It's a strange feeling because I feel like I SHOULD have enjoyed it because I'd been thinking about it and anticipating it so much.

Am hauling out the spare room so poor Teen one can enjoy the delights of a blow up mattress while his Grandma has his very lovely bed for three weeks. Keep finding stuff I haven't seen since we shipped all of our stuff to Singers 5 years ago, I'm chucking most of it out a la Bridge.

Hello Aunty Mame - good plan!

Angel - are you doing much baking? I made a nice lemon drizzle cake this week, from the Big Stripey Book written by an ozzie woman.

            Rags - 'Fruit Salad Trees?'

Was just about to walk the dogs, but it's gone all black and stormy looking outside, so they'll have to wait.

No Hornbills this morning, just cockatoos.

            Bets.

That's her! Was too lazy to get out of my seat and clamber over the mountain of rubble I'd created to check. Just came back in to edit and you beat me to it! Sky still black but no rain yet. Am in a very unfocussed fidgety mood today. Back to the chores.

Sweaty: It is a multi grafted tree, and each graft grows independent of the others. My citrus has orange, tangelo, lemon and grapefruit and my stonefruit one has 2 peaches, apricot, nectarine and plum. look up The Fruit Salad Tree Company Home Page Great for a balcony.
Beagle: I've got a very hot and humid ever so slight SE here, and the barometer's sitting on 1000mb. Hoping a front may be coming and it may bring a late shower. I HAVE to get over to WA in the next 2 years when the flowers are out! I remember years ago sniggering at my parents who took a bus trip over to see them, and thinking how corny and now I want to do it myself.
                  Tawny:
Stephanie Alexander is great... so is the chef and the cook. Cannot abide ready steady cook though... I think he's a gormless pillock.

                    Dear Ozzies-
Pardon me for barging in on your thread- which I read daily and it gives me endless guffaws along with some damn good wisdom-
Please may I ask for a translation of Gormless Pillock? And I have seen Ready Steady Cook and the host is a dull dud- is that the same thing?
As for fruity trees- I had one as a child- orange, grapefruit and lemon. Fabulous. I used to tell the kids at school I had a Froot Loops tree. It worked for a while.
                    Sigh.
                    -Sheep

PS- I do think all of you folks from down under are truly quite fabulous- truth be told- I am an Antipodean-phile (kind of like Franco-phile- only not France)
PPS- Umm Who is Stephanie Alexander? Or should I just go back to the Northern Hemisphere and shut the hell up?

                      Sheepish

I'm in Singapore but originally from UK, are you not familar with Gormless Pillock?

                      "gormless
                      adj.
Derogatory term for an individual of lesser intelligence. Often used in conjunction with the word 'pillock' as in 'Gormless Pillock'. Pillock being another word for a doofus.
In Geordieland (North East of England) people say "That blowkie has ner gorm!".
(ed: someone mailed in the definition for gorm - but I lost it!)
Source: circa current, UK (NW, NE)"

I have a HUGE stripey cookbook by Stephanie Alexander who I think is the Aussie equivalent of Delia?

Where are you in the Northern Hemisphere? If you have seasons I'm jealous.....

                      Back to decluttering.......

Sheepy! What a lovely visit and yep - gormless pillock = dull dud.

Stephanie Alexander, next generation doyenne of Oz cuisine after the legendary Margaret Fulton. The stripey book Betts refers to is a very heavy and utterly comprehensive tome of all things comestible. My copy has colour samples on lots of pages, esp. anything involving turmeric.

AND ... isn't Rags the old dark horse???? Not only does she know a heap about meditation, she also sails, cooks, sleeps with her dentist, horticults AND target shoots? Makes the rest of us girls look like gormless pillocks.

Betts - cross posted but I have to interject and say Stephanie is much much much more real than Delia although, I admit, Delia has better sets and prettier cookware.

Never seen Stephanie in action, but not too keen on Delia. Is Julie and Julia on release there yet? I loved the book so probably won't see it.

I Lurve the kitchen Goddess. Notice how her twin sets always match the colour of the dish she's preparing?

                            Sheepy: Hang around.

Sweaty: Thanks for the translation... I find it hard to try to translate it into everyday english. Same as if I say someone is smarmy. Or has a swarthy neck.

                            Tawny:
I thought you weren't going to let on how I got my fillings for ( almost) free! Hort: I topped the hort course two years running. Got a pencil and biro set and a nice certificate. Love bush regen and designing water features to attract birds.
                            Sailing:
Have been invited to help bring a cat down from Airlie to Sydney in Nov. which means I'm going to have to alter my return flight back from Sri Lanka. He wants someone who can navigate.

Raggsie - you really ARE a jack of all trades. The fruit salad tree- I'm absolutely fascinated!!!
Bets - I baked a cake just yesterday - a lemon syrup sponge actually - you drizzle the lemon syrup over it after it comes outa the oven. Oooh are we baking in sync now too...that's freakin' weird.
I made a delicious choc/hazelnut cake couple of weeks ago...must go post the recipe now. If you like ferrero rocher choccies you'll looove this.
                                Wavin' Dave...??Where's you??
