Why Do I Still Love My Wine ?

    Fantastic thread.
Wine is my poison too. Have tried switching to other drinks too, to cut consumption, but nothing has the same effect, as red wine.
It's 7 pm for me tho ...7, is my wine o'clock.
Oh, and incidentally, I too am a fitness freak, who (I am told repeatedly by shocked members of the public - do not look my age. - I'm 43, and twice in the last 4 weeks, have been asked for I.D , when in Tesco's). I can cause quite a stir at the checkout, I can tell you!
There's not blood in these ere veins - just merlot!
Why, just why, is there a tiny bit of me, that think's it's the wine that's preserving our youth?? Not a good thought, when you're trying to get off it!!

    :upset:
Lead me not into temptation, I can find the way myself!!!

      Stepintime,

I'm 47 but people think I'm late thirties. I heard that red wine has reverseral, I guess its some anti-aging thing. But I did just read that too much sugar (as in alcohol) reduces the elasticin in your collagen which will make your face start to sag....yikes!

Everything I need is within me!

Why Do I Still Love My Wine ?

Oh boy, can I relate to the previous posts. I too work out daily, and have had many work outs with a hangover.
I will tell you why you love wine. Because it is your 5 oclock buddy- doesn't judge you, makes your feel great (for the time being) doesn't criticize or belittle you and allows you to escape to happier times.
THe first day of sobriety is the hardest, the next day still hard, but by the end of the week, if you can keep strong- you will win.
Keep close to us here, we are all here for you.
Stay strong and don't let the beast win

Sobriety since October 2008 ( with a few bumps in the road ) - but I am still here, strong and fighting every day for my sobriety!
And every day is a challenge - But I am WINNING so far!

Why Do I Still Love My Wine ?

!!! No girls, too much al will not make you more youthful...it's dehydrating. And you can put all the lotions & potions you want on your skin but nothing will rehydrate it better than drinking good old H20 - sorry to be the voice of reason here but if you look so great now imagine how good you could look!! Beauty really does come from within.
I have lots in common, 37yrs old, train hard, look pretty good and USED to have the 5pm wine call. With education, support & will power it's now changed to the 5pm soda & lemon call (or a cranberry virgin cocktail to spoil myself)
Miss October, I'm also working on the changing my attitude from deprivation (which I DO feel sometimes still) to gratitude "I'm blessed to NOT be drinking wine right now" it's quite tough after the love affair turns 'sour' so to speak!

Hi ... I could have wrote your post ... I love the white. I lurk, I loath ... but I'm trying and am aware. Wish I could just make the changes ... someday I know I will.

Why Do I Still Love My Wine ?

It's fascinating how many of us abuse AL yet ironically take care of our bodies via exercise. It makes me wonder if it has anything to do with exercising through guilt. (i.e. "Well, I drank too much over the weekend so I can make up for it by exercising this week...") I know that plays a roll for me, even though I also enjoy the exercise for the way it makes me feel and look.

Why Do I Still Love My Wine ?

Just found this thread! I am 62 done all the running /cycling and still abused wine (plus gin)
None of my friends have a clue how much I drink. Listening to you just resonates. Been drinking for over 40 years and so glad I am stopping. But will miss the friends who can just stop at 2 glasses! You all sound so strong!

Stepintime, merlot in your veins....I do like that. Actually dark red wine is good for your heart. But I heard that you have to drink a lot of it which we have no problem in doing. The problem with that is while our heart may last for a long time, it's the other organs that will take us down.

QuitinTime, that is too funny ! I sure hope you are talking about your "Avatar" :H

dlw, thanks so much for sending us your courage & strength. Congrats on your almost a year of sobriety....amazing !

Anglecakes, you are so correct......AL is so dehrydrating.....that's why I hydrate all day. Plus AL relaxes ALL muscles, even in our faces......so if we get that droopy face from too much AL every night, it's going to stay that way.......ugh :yuk:

bouchard01, you know you are not alone. Keep lurking, it helps. Good luck to you.

Zeta, I know I really love to exercise (most days) as much as I love my wine. No guilt for me there. I think it is the "normal" drinkers who have the guilt and exercise to burn all the calories from excess food and drink they had over the weekend.

tawnywitch, don't go far, stay near. Someone might just write that "perfect" post that flips a switch in our heads. Take care.

And anon - you just keep on running. You are an inspiration !!
                      Miss October :blinkylove:
