                Halloween

I was watching some videos on hgtv.com and a lady made a "snow man" from 3 sizes of pumkins. She used fall produce and foliage for the embellishments, both real and fake. It was really clever.

                  Halloween

One year when we had the party down at the neighbors, Hubs hooked up our big flatbed trailer to our tractor and filled it with hay (we had a beautician's practice dummy head stuck on the front of the tractor :egad. Everyone loaded up and he brought them up to our house (which is almost 200 years old and haunted, BTW) and I was dressed in a long black dress and wig, carrying a candle for the only light. As I led them through the house, I told them about all the spooky things that had happened in it, and when we passed the staircase, my teenager neice was dressed in a long white gauze dress and she walked across the upstairs landing. Then when everyone got close to the storage door, someone jumped out at them. The adults were as much (or more!) scared than the kids. A guy leaned against the porch rail and my Rottie started barking and growling suddenly from right behind him. He jumped OVER the rail out into the yard. :bigcry: Ever since then everyone begs to come back again. I may do it this year.

                        Halloween

I am thinking of a Halloween party at our house for the grands and some of their cousins. For games, I am thinking pin the nose on the pumkin. I could make a grave yard in the dieing garden and hide rubber gloves filled with candy behind the headstones - like an Easter egg hunt. May make a ghost pinata using Ruby's spider egg method and hang it from a tree in backyard. Any other ideas for games? Maybe bobbing for apples in the water table play thingy we have?

Boys especially love bobbing for apples, or apples on a string. We always make a graveyard, you can buy plastic joke tombstones, and I have a life size plastic skeleton I lay out there. You can make luminarias out of empty jars with some sand in the bottom and votive candles , then twist wire around the top and hang them in a tree.My girls always loved making their own haunted house, too.

Thanks, Ruby! I save empty jars and have extra sand from a yard project. Storm votives are cheap and last along time. I just need 1 or 2 more games.

One idea we've used is a treasure hunt for the pumpkin. Hide a lighted pumkin somewhere, then give the kids the fisrt clue that leads to each of the others, til they find the pumkin in the dark.

Oh, and we had a mummy contest. Get 2 judges, then pair up the kids and give each a roll of toilet tissue. One wraps the other like a mummy in like 10 minutes, then the judge picks the best one.
