Hey has anyone here ever grown a herbaceous peony? I’m a bit concerned about mine. Just took a stroll between showers. It’s been raining lots here lately and everything non-native is growing like crackers but I’m not sure what will happen when the rain leaves and the hot sun moves in. Am thinking these little peonys might need an umbrella or something? Seriously I’ve seen pictures of them in the snow of Japan with umbrellas, but not sure how they will handle the Aussie heat.

Fickle - mine are in tubs in a very sheltered semi-shaded area. They've been in for 2 years but haven't flowered yet. They've currently grown great sets of leaves and are looking really healthy - so here's hoping. I seem to remember that they need protection from strong winds.

Thanks Bridge, Tawns,
We've got the cold climate sure enough but soon comes the hot! Glad to know I should not expect flowers for a year or two. I planted mine straight into the ground under a small tree but it's on the hot side of the house. Maybe I'll lift them & put em in tubs when they die back at end of summer. A friend and I both got a couple but got completely different advice on planting - she was told to plant them a foot under and I was told to plant them with crowns showing at surface.. so we are having a bit of a race. Mine seem to be doing OK with all the rain but a shady spot sounds lilke the ticket. If anyone gets a flower I want pics please!!

Hi Bridge. Well, i know you'd love some saucy goss, but i'm just re-energised after a good sleep last night, and feeling knackered all last week. Was so overtired....a mental overload, i think. Yep, i do use the grey matter on occassion, and can even think above my waistline now and then. Had a good day? What's for dinner?

Did you get to sing God Save the Queen today, Bridge?
Discovered it was actually Labour Day. Something to do with trade union victory for working conditions. If your 8 year old self met you, would they be proud?
